Election Aftermath

Uh Oh Republicans, Inflation has peaked and is coming down.

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/july-inflation-data-cpi-august-10-123330998.html

So let me guess, we'll go back to the Presidents don't really have an effect on inflation reality right? Supply chains sorted themselves out and energy prices are falling, good news. Markets responding accordingly.

It's August when half of Wall St and the buy side is on vacation. This is a low volume, short squeeze aided knee-jerk reaction to a backward looking data point - might want to hold off on your victory lap. Actually, you're probably right - the Inflation Reduction Act is working already. The 79 year old dementia addled career politician with no real accomplishments to his name (other than FINALLY getting Democrats to nominate him) fixed it. you should buy this rally and wait until September/October to take your profits.

Did supply chains really sort themselves out? I thought that was Biden's doing?

All in all, kind of crappy timing on this for the Dems. Biden just delivered several major victories for the American people (Inflation Reduction Act, CHIPS semi conductor Bill, Burn Pit Bill, dynamite jobs report, Killed the mastermind of 9/11 etc). All that knocked off the headlines by this raid. Biden has just had a few of the best weeks of his presidency.

But the justice department doesn't really care about timing for politics. And you know that they had to check everything on the warrant about 30 times to make sure it was ironclad before executing it. Wray had to sign off, and then Garland. Will be interesting to see who the judge was. Cecilia M. Altonaga is the Federal Judge over Southern Florida, she was appointed by George Bush, but they might not have had to go to her. Might have gone to Bruce Reinhart, appointed by Trump in 2018 after he successfully defended Trump's best friend Jeff Epstein.

Bruce Reinhart was appointed in 2018, but not by Trump. President's don't appoint magistrate judges, they're appointed by a majority vote of active district judges of the court with no oversight from the President.

Reinhart is the guy who made an ass of himself trying to explain away why Lois Lerner's lost emails were probably an accident. Hard to see where a guy like that wouldn't be completely neutral and objective, right? Also, he claims to have represented some of Epstein's employees but not Epstein himself. Which he did in violation of DOJ policy by quitting the SFUS Atty's Office that was investigating Epstein and going to work for Epstein's employee's the next day. Reinhart denied having knowledge of the Epstein case claiming he didn't work on it but his former colleagues at the US Atty's Office contradicted this claim saying Reinhart had learned "confidential, non-public information about the Epstein matter."

Edit: Yet more evidence of not-Trump-appointee Bruce Reinhart's objectivity... Sounds like he was basically in the bag for Trump up until a couple days ago. I guess the possibility Trump may have some papers at his house (documents he actually returned in January) was a bridge too far so he finally decided to do what's right for the country and by the law. I'll never understand why all those conspiracy theorists think we have a 2 tiered justice system.

@itsJeffTiedrich
look, I may not approve of Donald Trump's theft of classified intel, but he is a former president and I will defend to the death his right to be arrested, dragged away in handcuffs, humiliated, tried for his crimes and chucked straight the fuck into some dark prison

Who the fk is Jeff Tiedrich?

Exactly. Based on the number of things Johnny's gotten wrong on this thread, my best guess is he's one of the college football or basketball recruiting writers he follows on 247.

Some Babylon Bee headlines:

??Never has America faced a greater threat than Donald Trump? says man who started 2 wars, an illegal torture program and shot a man in the face?. Brilliant move by the Cheney campaign - tap one of truly most hated politicians in America for an endorsement ad! Way to go Liz.

?4D Chess: Trump Saves His Cache Of Classified Documents From FBI Confiscation By Labeling Them 'Epstein?s Client List'?

Weaponizing the gumbit to continue the witch hunts. This is not acceptable.

News flash: the government has been doing this to left wing, socialist and communist groups for over a hundred years. and the FBI has been doing it probably since their creation as well, but it's been well documented they've been doing it to black racial justice activists since the 60's, including actively colluding with police and white supremacist groups to assassinate black leaders.

While I agree this raid on Trump is troubling and idiotic, and these allegations he's hiding "top secret documents" are absurd and likely specious, this is hardly the first time the government has done this.

Getting your head blown off while you drink your morning coffee on a balcony in Memphis, or having the Chicago PD raid your apartment and murder you in your sleep are unquestionably worse than the FBI messing up Mar A Lago and raiding Melania's panty drawer...

It's hard to take you and spartanmack seriously when you suddenly decide cops are bad now. Like wake up, you dumbasses.

For decades the Right's rhetoric on police raids and unconstitutional surveillance was "if you haven't done anything wrong, you have nothing to worry about." Well you've made your bed here. You made the bed we all have to sleep in and it's fucking disgusting.

Yes but socialists and angry militant blacks are bad and wrong and seditious.

Nixon obviously abused his power, Kennedy and Johnson as well.

Both Bushes seemed to have done some dodgy shit, as did Obama.

Whether it matters or not, former NY Governor Andrew Cuomo has joined the chorus of critics of the DOJ regarding this event.

EDIT: Oh, almost forgot - urban legend is that every president ever elected while J. Edgar Hoover headed the FBI had intended to fire him, then right after the new president got to the White House Hoover would send over a dossier of dirt Hoover had on him.

DOJ has petitioned the court to unseal the warrant and receipt of property list. The public will know what's in it soon unless Trump can somehow successfully stop it.

Of note, Trump and his attorneys already have both and are under no obligation to keep them private, if they had wanted to they could have released them immediately.

Garland personally approved the FBI to seek the warrant. Made clear there was probable cause to do so.
