Starting high always helps. The fact that Oregon is also top 5-7 is huge too. Even if we lose to Oregon (unless it is a blowout somehow), we probably stick in the top 15. Running the table in the B1G becomes paramount if we do lose though.

Really though, running the table overall is the only surefire way in, and honestly should be the expectation the team takes into the season. FSU still plays in a weak conference and should cruise into the playoff. At least one team from the SEC and PAC-12 are all but guaranteed given the expected conference strength. The B1G still doesn't have a great reputation, so it wouldn't be crazy for a 1-loss SEC or PAC-12 (especially if that team is Oregon having beat MSU) team to get the nod over 1-loss MSU.
