Fairley arrested for DUI

I don't know why fans always say cut him? If you or I get a DUI, you wouldn't be fired from your job...unless you lost your license and you drive a truck for a living. But if you are Bob in accounting and have 2 DUI's your empolyer isn't going to fire you....probably won't ever find out unless you told them.

Fairley is stupid and clearly uses poor judgement. But he didn't show up to a game drunk. He got a DUI's on his off time. Talent rules. And at this point you give him another chance and try and get him some help.

I sure am glad the prohibition to participate in "dangerous activities" clause in every NFL contract doesn't apply to driving 100 mph drunk....Lord knows he could have really put himself at risk by playing in a pick-up basketball game or gone skate boarding!

What a dumb shit... Kids just never learn... Well when he is broke at the end of his career he won't be smiling so much. like you said talent rules. Wish we could start finding talent and character guys..

Actually I worked for a major telecommunications company and I know of 2 people they fired for DUI arrests. They basically fired anyone who was ever arrested for almost anything. They never even told the company but somehow they found out and were gone.

I just read he was doing over 100mph on the expressway in his Escalade when he passed a cop. He had an open container and appeared intoxicated, but declined a breathalyzer test.

so you're saying that if you got arrested and because of that you missed 1/4 or even 1/2 of your work year, that your company wouldn't fire you? What if your arrest was made public? You don't think it would be an embarrassment for them that you are representing their brand?

the guy is a bum. He'll never be anything in this league. I said the exact same thing before we drafted him. two arrests in such a short amount of time shows a complete disrespect for the game, his employers, and the fans who pay to watch him and buy his merchandise. Maybe you can think of someone with two arrests in such a short amount of time after they were drafted that ever panned out in the NFL? They are few and far between. We can't cut him, can't trade him, so we have to hope he gets his act together and becomes a contributor to the team.

Sure if I was thrown in jail for months I'm sure my employer would fire me then, but if I got arrested for a night because of a DUI then no, they wouldn't. Arrests are public. But the public isn't going to care if it's you or I. Wheels pointed out a company who fires people. I'm saying I know multiple people who have DUI's and were not fired...2 guys have more than one. Both of those guys have very high paying jobs and did not get fired. They are both in sales and their companies knew about it too. As long as they could still get to work, it wasn't an issue.

All that aside, Fairley is an idiot.

Lawrence Taylor maybe? Not sure about how close together any of his arrests were though, so your point is likely still valid. Who was that tackle from Dallas busted with a trunk load of drugs (might have "only" been pot tho).

Agreed it is unlikely things will work out well, but he is young and IF he squares his life away could be a major contributor. Could easily be a major draft bust with this destructive behavior. Both he and Leshoure need MAJOR counseling.

On a side note, was he at OTAs this past week and was home for the holiday weekend?

He's definitely going to be suspended by the league, not sure how long, maybe 4 games now. This kid has some problems, it;s hard to tell how someone will handle the money.

I think Fairley has the ability to be a pro bowler on the field, if he doesn;t get his head out of his ass he might never get that chance.

good point about LT. He never even crossed my mind. I know he did a drug rehab thing early in his career. Not sure about arrests that early on though.

And to clarify to everyone else, I was referring to arrests made after the draft, not before. Obviously there have been a lot of success stories for bad college kids turning into good pros.

4 games for sure now combining the two arrests. What a dumbass. Lions proved they could make playoffs without these dumbasses last year. Try to do it again and Fairley and Leshoure better come back Week 5 and freakin dominate to make people forget about this shit.

i work for coke...you have a dui in the last 3 years you dont even get an interview to be hired. If you already work for the company and get a DUI as a merchandiser you lose your job, salesman...they might put you on leave for 30 days until you get your liscense back...but thats only if they like you. You also cant apply to move up within the company for 3 years. Its definitely alot worse than what these bums get away with. The NFL should really start to come down harder. It happens way to often and makes the league look like a joke. It should be in the contracts that if the start to get these incidents their pay gets lowered so the teams dont get stuck with a bunch of assholes playing for them.

Caveat Emptor...MM didn't do his homework or looked past it if he did. Hope this a-hole turns it around.

Fairley is young. He needs to grow up....

And like you said, you work for Coca-Cola....nuff said. The NFL is a whole other world...we all know this.

ya, coca cola...a major company worldwide....just like the NFL. its time they started acting like one.

Things I have recently learned: Nick Failey considers Jamarcus Russell to be like a brother to him; they grew up two blocks from each other and went to the same HS.

Fairley showed up to the Auburn Awards banquet where he was receiving Auburn defensive player of the year, an hour late drunk and high.

My step brother works for Auburn as a SID....he said nothing that he does surprises him.

Id rather he have been busted for weed again than the DUI. Running from cops? What was this guy's Wunderlich score?
