Trade to get Maurice Jones-Drew.

What kind of trade would be reasonable to you guys?

How about some of these possibilities:

1. Cliff Avril for MJD and a R1 pick next year.

2. Nate Burleson and Kevin Smith for MJD.

3. Kevin Smith, Spievey, and either Levy or Palmer.

Just tossing around some ideas. We need a better RB and MJD would be great doing tag team with Leshoure IMO. Expensive, yes...but cut Best and that alone saves some money. No need for Best if we get MJD.

Not sure if they would want a DE like Avril. They have spent lots of picks on DL lately.

Jags would ask for Titus Young and a 1st Rounder for MJD I think.

2 and 3 are laughably one sided in our favor. As for number 1 are you saying we give up Avril and a 1st or we get MJD and a 1st? Either way I don't really think either team does it but its certainly more realistic and Jacksonville might not laugh their ass off before hanging up on us if its Avril and a 1st.

I was saying MJD + R1 for Avril...but really just looking to start a conversation on what the Lions might realistically try to work in a trade with any players and/or picks from either side.

And yes, I know there are some reporters hollering there is ZERO chance the Jags trade MJD. I never buy into that for there is always a price worth taking. Not that the Lions would do it, but if they said CJ for MJD straight up I don't think the Jags hesitate (well, other than to verify it isn't some prank caller).

Wha? No, you gotta be shitting me. What? Ha ha ha! Lemme catch my breath, phew *wipes tear*. Now wha, what were those options again? Phew.

Thanks for the productive input cheeno. Now, if you would be so kind as to provide something more constructive, it would be appreciated.

The problem is not only do you have to make a deal with the Jags but you have to also sign MJD to a new deal and hes gonna want close to 6mil a year and when we are already in salary cap hell we really wont have a chance.

If Best is unable to perform due to medical reasons, don't the Lions get to remove his salary from their cap? I don't have the figure, guessing it is around 1.5 mil for this year. If you get MJD for 5.5 mil that is only 4 mil they have to find. A portion of that 4 mil will come from the player(s) involved in the trade.

I do recognize the salary cap problem the Lions face, but I don't think they are so far away from the numbers that they can't figure something out.

Yeah, there's zero chance the Jags wouldn't snap hang up if we said Avril for MJD and a 1st.

You maybe get some serious dialog going if you offer a 1st, Avril, and Shaun Hill straight up for MJD but then Jacksonville has to worry about Shaun Hill outperforming Gabbert and starting a QB controversy. Jacksonville already proved they want nothing to do with that scenario when they didn't pull the trigger on Tebow.

Anything else that Jacksonville would want we really wouldn't be willing to give up to upgrade the RB position after spending a 1st and 2nd there in two out of the last three drafts.

Besides, Kevin Smith and Co. averaged 4.5ypc last year which is plenty sufficient and there's literally no reason to expect this team to be worse running the ball.

His money that is guaranteed stays on the cap no matter what. If Best retires then we may be able to get some back but the bulk of his salary number is prorated bonus so we are on the hook for that no matter what.

Remember ZYXT, just because we pay Avril more does NOT mean he's a better player than MJD. It's just the market for his position is much larger. MJD is hands down the better player.

Lions dont have the cap room...and wont have the cap room in the future to sign a RB that wants what he wants.

Stafford has to be re-signed and is going to get 40+ guaranteed....So you are going to have your WR and QB occupying 80 milion in guaranteed money....and probalby 25% of your cap for the next 5 years.

ok, fair enough. not that i had high hopes, but there was a glimmer. thanks for putting a good dose of reality on it.

those are tough numbers slick. throw in suh and those 3 are around what, 35% of total cap? makes it tough to round out the team at that point. not impossible, but tough.

Stafford plays all 16 games this year and throws for another 5,000 yds and 35 - 40 TDs his agent is gonna want top 3 QB money and most likely more then CJ just got.

thanks. reading that felt about the same as getting my prostate checked. best had better play dammit!!!

yeah, especially if he's the only one with the back-to-back 5000 yards since that's never been done before. throw in a trip to the NFC CG or the Super Bowl and the $$$ just keeps going up.

Hold on hold on ima let you finish. Nate Burleson and Kevin whaaa? Sp Spievey, and Pa Palmer who?

Look at it this way, Jacksonville is sorta in that same spot the Lions were in when they grabbed those guys up. They have a bunch of holes that need filled. One teams trash...

And yeah, I admit it was an unrealistic option. I should have thrown in Berry...oops! ;)
