Former Lions, Dolphins kicker Garo Yepremian rip

Guess I am just too young to remember this guy, especially since I was born in '73.

Always sad when someone passes away though.

You were only 8 when he retired. But you know who he is right?

I was 16 when he retired and I only remember him from his SB gaff that I saw years later. I don't remember him during his playing days.

I can't lie.. I know who is is from highlight film of the kick that turned into a throw, that turned into a pick 6 that almost ended the perfect season.

But I honestly wasn't aware he had been a kicker for the Lions prior to that.

Me neither. I just know him as a Dolphin. Though I think I heard, somewhere, that he played for Detroit some years ago. Don't remember though..

To be honest, I'm not sure I can name a linebacker or offensive lineman from my childhood years before the age of 13.

When you're little, all you know is the QB, the WR, and the RB. I was pretty sure when I was 7 that the Lions had 5 guys on their entire roster.

Skill positions are everything when you're young and dumb.

So true Ink. The exception being that when I was a kid I loved Corey Schlesinger, who I guess borderline played a skill position. But since Reiff played fullback for a year I'm going to count him as an lineman.

Loved Schles, but sadly... I wasnt a kid then. I had kids by then, but I don't think that counts.

The only K's I remember are Hanson and Murray and some guy who used to play for the Bears because Murray was hurt. Murray was drafted when I was 14 and have no idea who we had before that.

But correct, Ink. I remember Dexter Bussey in his first years, and the QB's, Landry and Danielson. The WR's, I can remember mostly Freddie Scott. Also, Thompson and Hill. I didn't even know Charlie Sanders until he retired. I was 12 when he retired.

Big fan of Bubba Baker but I was a bit older then..

Dating myself, but I remember Yepremian's playing days as a Lion very well. Strong leg but not very accurate (he obviously improved with the Dolphins - I always thought the Lions gave up too soon on the guy).

Most old Lions fans will remember Garo as the subject of one of Alex Karras' best one-liners, when he described this new wave of European import kickers getting excited and shouting "I keek a touchdown!".

And please, I hope no one asks "who's Alex Karras".

RIP Garo.

Same here. Murray and Hanson are all I know.

When I was a kid, I think in 1980, about 7 years old or so, I saw Eddie Murray for the first time.

Terrible confession here, but we had a horrible TV with bad rabbit ears, and the picture was terrible 24/7.

I saw the kick, but couldn't make out the players very well. When they said "Eddie Murray kicks the field goal" I remember thinking "WOW!!! The first baseman from the Orioles is our new kicker!!! That is so awesome!!!"

It was like three more years before I saw a good photo of him and went "that is not the baseball player!".

Lol. That's funny.

Sad part is, I kept telling other kids at school they were the same guy, and those kids believed me.

So when I found out it wasn't the same guy, and told the kids in school it really wasn't the same guy, they all thought i was lying.

I am pretty sure some of those kids to this day believe they were the same player, and probably got confused when Bo Jackson became the first player to play both sports.

"Nuh uh. Eddie Murray dude. Kicked for the Lions for a long and was a pure Hall of Famer in baseball too!".

My TV was so bad as a kid you could have told me it was Eddie Murphy kicking field goals.
