its not complicated... its right in the goddamned bible!

It says those are the only way to get into heaven? You need to re-read it then. And as far as old people, wait to your a senior and see if you're up to going to a soup kitchen or teaching 5th grade math.

Here's a transcript of the actual interview.

Leave it to Chimp to omit context.

LOL he says the only reason people don't believe in jesus is because they don't want to be judged when they do drugs and commit adultery.

What a nimrod.

No, that's not what he said. That's not at all what he said. The transcript is there. Read it, or not, but don't make stuff up.

"Because they don’t want to be judged. They believe that religious people are judging their behavior, and they don’t want to be judged. They want to do what they want.

Take a guy like Bill Maher. He’s probably the most visible atheist in the American media. Well, Bill Maher does not want to be told what to do. He wants to do whatever he wants. And if it’s take drugs, he wants to be able to do that. If it’s commit adultery, he wants to be able to do that. Whatever it may be, he doesn’t want anybody telling him not to. And the people that would do that would be religious people, so he strikes out against them."

I paraphrased, but I didn't make anything up at all.

What I said are the same things he said.

Bill Maher isn't married and hasn't been and is pretty open about it

Context, Thumb. O'Reilly was asked a direct question. Cite the question and give the complete answer. Here it is:

Q: Why do you think that there is so much sneering and ridicule toward religion by people who don?t believe?

A: Because they don?t want to be judged. They believe that religious people are judging their behavior, and they don?t want to be judged. They want to do what they want. Take a guy like Bill Maher. He?s probably the most visible atheist in the American media. Well, Bill Maher does not want to be told what to do. He wants to do whatever he wants. And you, then, proceed to sneer and ridicule. You prove his point. So do a few other regular posters.

But how can you commit adultery if you're not married?!

And what about all the things Bill Maher doesn't do, whether he's told to or not?!

Dude, it's the same thing in context with the question. I don't get your point. Granted, I didn't read page 2, but what he said and what you said are the same thing. Bill O thinks that atheists don't want to believe in god because we don't want to be judged for what we do. That way we can get away with anything without a guilty conscience.

And for the record, that's not true at all. We don't believe because we don't believe. It's as simple as that. If someone stops believing because they want to do whatever they want to do, they're not an atheist. And I've never met anyone like that.

if it wasn't for religion, I would fucking kill you. What??? No consequences! DIEEEEEE!

End of sarcasm.

Also, isn't adultery any sexual act with someone who is not your spouse?

It's not quite like that ;-). There is probably some truth to it, for some people. I know one like that. Also the people who think if they go to Mass heaven awaits. Afterwards they're rotten people. It works both sides.

Some people don't need a dusty old book interpreted by old white men to know what Not to do because it's "wrong" and I'm the Son of a preacher (as many know)

Oompa Loompa do-ba-dee-doo
I've got another puzzle for you
Oompa Loompa do-ba-dee-dee
If you are wise you will listen to me
Who do you blame when your kid is a brat
Pampered and spoiled like a Siamese cat?
Blaming the kids is a lion of shame
You know exactly who's to blame:
The mother and the father!
Oompa Loompa do-ba-dee-da
If you're not spoiled then you will go far
You will live in happiness too
Like the Oompa Loompa do-ba-dee-doo

you know somebody that doesn't believe in god for the sole reason that they want to do what they want? That's shallow and it gives us atheists a very bad name.

Personally, I know at least 15 atheists and every single one of them are the type of people that I would trust my kid with for extended periods of time. Not saying all atheists are good people, but I'd say the percentage of good/bad is about the same between religious and atheist.

What does that do with anything. For me the bible is important and I don't interpret it as "Dusty old book by old white men".

It always seems to be non believers always criticize the Christians but it's never the other around. I might not understand their point of view but I would never get in your face about it.

My problem with Christians is that science is treated as opinion and a book with dozens of factual errors and magic is fact. Then, some rules from that book make it into our laws, no matter if we don't believe in the same thing.

We're told that we're going to a place after we die where we will be tortured for all of eternity. We're told that we're not good people no matter how many good things we do in life. It's all because we don't have a god to give us our morals.

This is my problem with Christians and religion. It doesn't apply to all of you, but I think if you put yourself in the minority instead of the majority you'd probably understand where we're coming from with our criticism.

I'm talking about -- in the context of the quote -- and in the context of a Bill Maher reply to the assertion that he doesn't want to be told what NOT to do.

Some don't need biblical scripture to know what NOT to do

Wrong Victors!

According to past posts I have read here....if you don't believe in god (meaning a christian god) you don't have morals!

BTW when I'm on my deathbed I'm going to ask to be put in a bathtub full of teriyaki marinade, so at least I'll smell delicious when I'm roasting in hell.
