I haven't followed this part of the convo much yet, but do you think everyone killed during the Inquisition was guilty of anything? Or anyone at all?

They were heretics. They needed to be converted, and afterward, be put to death for having been heretics.

Red would admit that the Inquisition was "pretty bad" but would go out of his way to argue semantics with anyone else criticising it, resulting in that person being burned at the stake, and then no one being there to argue on his behalf when the Inquisition turns on him next...

So where are you in this fiction? In what role would we put someone who sees everything in black and white terms and passes judgement by deciding if you're with us or against us and then makes up stories to fit his narrative?

So, if I decide to perform this completely evil act, and then make the pronouncement that I am doing this in the name of atheism, it must mean that all atheists are bad, and should be persecuted themselves for even being associated with the same group that this evil person has professed belief in.

Let me back up for a minute. given the other criticisms of the program, I assumed Cosmos was saying "attacking people for disputing the tenets of your religion = bad for science."

if they're really holding Bruno out to be an example of a scientist... then okay. Cosmos shouldn't have done that. I didn't realize that was the context the episode put him in. Sounds like otherwise the program was great, and if that's the only real flaw, I hope people tune in. I understand some people might feel like he should've taken the high road and just shown science without attacking religion. Again from my reading of reviews of the show, it sounds like he mostly did that, and personally, given the amount of punches organized religions in this country has landed on its foes of "science" "logic" and "reason" over the last couple decades, I don't blame him.

with that being said, I still stand by my other comments in this thread, which were all superb.
