Well, for another year, the free agent world seems to be passing the Red Wings by.

Niskanen.......gone.
Boyle.........gone.

And we pick up.....(wait for it).....LW Kevin Porter from Buffalo.

We need another D man (preferably a RH shot), but nothing yet, while the rest of the league goes hog wild.

Disappointing.

Firstly, we aren't rolling in cap space, we can't just go throw money at anybody. Secondly, our biggest improvements are almost assuredly going to come from our young guys developing.

Niskanen might have been good, but 5 million a year good? Boyle is 37 and just made 4.5 million a year. I don't think you should be upset over the Wings missing out on overpaying those guys. It's a weak free agent class this year, we should have expected to sit out the overpays.

It seems disappointing so far but this FA class sucks.

I'm fine with them standing pat and plugging in Sproul/Marchenko in on D next season if they can't sign a RHD to help out the PP.

this is not the FA class to be throwing huge money/years to guys like Niskanen who don't have much of a track record.

This should be the final sign that any and all 'good moves' Holland actually made were just luck. He's a dang idiot if he actually believed that 1. resigning Quincey for any amount was a good idea and 2. that he needed to pay that much for him.

Look I am as pissed off as you guys are but Holland and his group is still drafting decent.. Yes we need him to be better... But lets not give up yet...

Holland is a joke man.

His scouts are making him look good these days on the draft tip.

His decision making and signings have been downright atrocious since 2009. I'm not even upset about not signing Niskanen, he could very well be cashing in because of playing with 2 top 5 players in the world. He offered Boyle a 3 year deal and Boyle said FU and took a 2 year deal with the NYR, Ehrhoff said he wants to play with a 'good team', ouch. In a WEAK Draft class, Holland STILL tried signing the top FA's and they told him to suck it basically, pretty telling. He offered more money to Niskanen, and thankfully he went elsewhere. After striking out Holland says 'oh well, I tried', and signs KFQ to an 8.5 million deal over 2. That is mind boggling stupidity. Kyle Fucking Quincey is getting almost as much money as Kronwall to play in our bottom 4, he's basically a #5-6 D on a good team.

On top of that Holland doesn't even have a clue why no players want to sign here, I think I have a good idea, complacency and a coach/GM that is playing favorites with certain players, not icing the best possible team, burying guys in the minors that belong in the NHL. That would turn me off as well, it should be about WINNING, Holland has not shown a committment to building the Wings back into contention, they are WAY too soft/finesse, they lack the grit neccessary to make a deep run at a Cup, they let teams push around their best players with no retaliation, it's pathetic.

But dat playoff streak doe. Pure Garbage. Do you really consider making the playoffs if you get your ass handed to you in 5 games some great accomplishment? I don't.

Holland is a PISS POOR GM, and people need to get over the nostalgia of the past and wake up, it feels just like what I was telling Dumars supporters years ago.

Ok X.. You win... Fire them all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It does piss me off how he keeps older guys to long and lets younger guys stay in the minors.. I wonder how long Anthony Mantha will be in the minors?

"Pure and simple, Mantha is a goal scorer. He has a great frame that he uses to fight through traffic, solid puck awareness and offensive positioning, all topped off with a heavy wrister that he can fire off quickly and smoothly. He also skates extremely well, but his consistency on the ice and effort level has come into question. For a player of his size, he needs to keep his feet moving and work hard on both sides of the puck".

But I do think they will be better then we think next year X... Sorry I like hockey. I just cant root for them not to make the playoffs..

This is a pretty good summary IMO, especially about showing 'loyalty' to players. That family attitude and the loyalty they showed guys used to be the thing that drew players here (part of it anyway). Now it is more of a crutch that seems to be hindering signings and hindering the team. They have gone overboard with it. You show that type of loyalty to the Shanahan's, Yzermans, ect. Not to Dan Cleary, Kyle Quincey, ect.

Exactly. Cleary had some decent years here where he was productive, but that ship sailed better than 2 years ago, by 2011 he could barely get up and down the ice anymore.

last 2 seasons, Cleary has played 100 games and accumulated 23 points, and is a -17.

Now Holland is bringing him back and supposedly will have to 'earn' a spot, yeah right, i'm not believing that garbage, especially after what happened with Nyquist last year.

Holland claims he's signed him for his 'versatility' and wants to put him on the PP, despite the fact that Cleary played almost 80 minutes on the PP last year and accumulated -0- points. If this doesn't scream cooked player I don't know what does.

I'm thoroughly convinced now this franchise is set in mediocrity with Holland at the helm until he gets replaced. He has no direction. Nobody will sign here because of his outdated philosophies, ie him and Babcock's favoritism with playing certain players over icing the best roster to win with. This Cleary move has Babcock written all over it. Holland and Babcock can both take a hike, I personally think both of these guys are the reason why players don't want to play here. #FireHolland
