Tigers vs. Red Sox Preview: Mike Fiers? trade deadline audition is a stiff, stiff test.
Fiers might be on the trade block, but facing the Red Sox won?t be good for his numbers.

Detroit Tigers vs. Boston Red Sox, at Comerica Park, July 21, 2018 Matchups, Preview.
Baseball Reference

All-time Boston leads 1039-974.

Key matchup: Mike Fiers vs. Justin Upton, basically.
Remember yesterday, when I said the Red Sox were actually kinda average at hitting lefthanders? That?s... not the case against righties.
The Red Sox have a 120 wRC+ against right-handed pitching this year, a gaudy number few teams every approach for a full season. It means that, as a team, they are 20 percent better than league average.
Only a handful of individual hitters get there for a full year, and there?s a who?s who of hitters just below that mark, including Bryce Harper, Buster Posey, and former Tigers slugger Justin Upton. We?re well aware of how streaky Upton can be, but he has still managed a 119 wRC+ this season and a 121 wRC+ for his career.

Now imagine Upton facing Mike Fiers at every spot in the batting order.
That?s basically what the Tigers are going up against in this game.

Prediction
Bad things.

2nd inning Candelario ropes what shouyld be a double down the left field line but has to settle for a single, with Victor on first with a walk can only make it to second, sad....

edit;
Well Iggy does the same thing a liner down left, and this time creaky legs scores with Candy running up his back and scores, cheers no shutout tonight,

Tigers lead 2 - 0,

The most frequent phrase heard during an ave tigers game?

Tigers threaten but do not score

After the last 2 innings, and getting out of trouble, each time with 2 outs,

I think Fiers is starting to run out of steam,

consecutive hits to rf, again with 2 outs and JB jr. hits it to the fence in LF,

Get him out of their Gardy,

6 IP 87 pitches, 5 hits, 3 BB, 6 K's,

Tigers Bullpen.

Fiers has been a nice surprise this season. Didn’t expect much from this guy, but he’s been pretty solid.

Iggy with carrer home run #18! Igsgstir providing all the offense tonight

Iggy with a 2 run homer, and a sac fly by Candelario gives Tigers a 5 - 0 lead after 6 innings,

Fiers starts the 7th and gives up 2 hits,

Gardy takes him out now, old school Leylandesque move,

edit;

Wilson comes in and gets a double play,

about what? I have the Nesn boston feed.

He was talking about strikeouts with a couple current Tigers and comparing it with guys like DiMaggio who never K'd 40 times in a season.. The Tigers players thought it was because they didn't throw as hard back then, Gibby had a different opinion. He brought up some nice ideas, hard to explain unless you actually heard.. I just agreed with him..

Thanks.
I'm curious which Tigers players thought that about the pitchers back then. Plenty of pitchers threw in the 90's from what I heard from old timers back when I was a kid and teen 50's to mid 60's.
Batters back then didn't swing from their heels all the time like all these guys do for the past few decades, along with chasing so many pitches in the dirt or opposite batter box.

Thanks.

The two that Gibby spoke to seemed to think they didn't throw as hard back then.. But players are quicker and bigger now --

"Batters back then didn't swing from their heels all the time like all these guys do for the past few decades." Agree.

Maybe, probably, not as many but then again there were only 8 teams,
and not sure but maybe not a 25 man roster when Joe D. and Teddy Ballgame played.
Add in might have been a 9 or 10 or less on the pitching staff.

Our Tigers just shut out the red sox 5 - 0!!

Lots of Massholes are going to be upset over this game.

Tigers Victory Cigar!!

Yep. It's like that had starters, and one or two more pitchers maybe. 100 pitches was nothing to them..
