I'm going to say it now. I did pick them to win the Division. BUT now, Will not surprise me should the Tigers not make the playoff now!!

Tigers offense - which had been better away from home - has disappeared last 7 road games. Tigers scored 25 Runs in 4 Games to start last road trip.

but since then, Tigers have scored 8 Runs in last 7 road games, In 231 AB, Tigers have hit .160/.200/.225 - w/ just 9 XBH, 9BB/59K.

Tigers' starters. SP have gone 7 or 8 IP each of last 7 Games 2.05ERA in 52.2 IP, 6 BB 51 K

But the small ball we were told there would be more of to win low scoring and close games is working for the Tigers offense.

Was thinking when Kelly was up hell try a squeeze nothing else is working, you are right, where is the small ball? they was supposed to be better at finding away to pull close ones out with speed and saber-metrics weren't they?. lot of times when you see offense struggle in a close game you might see guys trying to bunt their way on to start something, nothing.. we have seen little to no attempts at small ball here during this lousy stretch. why?

bunt don't they have to make contact 1st?

Let me get this straight,Did that dumbass take OUT J.D.,So Miggy could pinch hit? wtf and then Kelly is up next.He should have let J.D. hit and then pinch hit for Mudhen. I'd of taken my chances of letting J.D. hit and at least move the runners up, and then with only one out let Miggy hit a long fly SAC to score the run from 3rd.

So we lost 3 of 4 to the Yanks, after obtaining David Price and Joakim Soria. Yeah, this is going real well. We are headed straight for 2nd place in the division.

Who says pitching wins?

Just about everyone. You do need somewhat of an average offense to make that happen though. The Tigers are in a horrible offensive slump obviously. I doubt the numbers KC posted from their past 8 road games (2-6) is anything close to average. Even as bad as it looks now, I don't think the offense will continue at a .425 OPS clip.

I do agree there hasn't been much of the "small ball" stuff. It looks like guys are just up there hacking, and that has been very disappointing.

everyone is very disappointed Tigers that the team has such great pitching but still can't win. it's beyond frustrating. Could you all please stop hacking so much and letting average pitchers dominate you all the time. Thanks!

For the most part it's true. Same with a great defense in football.

But the caveat is with pitching and defense, you only win of you have a lead to protect.

I like Price, and he's way better then Smyly, but the difference between them in terms of wins will be nil if the bats don't show up. And the bigger overall impact to the team might not be the addition of Price every 5 games, but the loss of Ajax every single game. We have to find some way to replace that offense. Scour the waiver wires.

A couple of questions:

Why do the Tigers face Pittsburgh this year? Aren't they only supposed to face the NL West (instead of NL Central or East)?

How do you find some advanced stats such as:

Bullpen-ERA (team average). I can only find pitching staff-ERA (team average) on Baseball-reference.

BA with RISP. I cannot find this on Baseball-reference.

Analysis: Detroit Tigers 9-12 since All-Star break due to dismal offensive outputs by several players.
mlive

The Tigers were second in the majors -- first in the American League -- in both batting average (.280) and OPS (.778) prior to the All-Star break.
In 21 games since the break, they rank 22nd in the majors in batting average (.235) and 20th in OPS (.649).

The Tigers averaged 4.80 runs per game prior to the All-Star break. They have averaged 3.76 runs since.

They have scored five runs or more just five times in 21 games since then. They are 5-0 in those games.
They are 4-3 in the seven games in which they have scored four runs.
They are 0-9 when scoring three runs or fewer during that stretch.

Tigers are 9-12 since the All-Star break. That's 5-1 against the Arizona Diamondbacks and Colorado Rockies, a pair of National League also-rans, and 4-11 against American League opponents.

Tigers with their numbers before and after the break:

Ian Kinsler
Before: .303 average, .806 OPS
After: .216 average, .500 OPS

Victor Martinez
Before: .328 average, .991 OPS
After: .308 average, .772 OPS

J.D. Martinez
Before: .346 average, 1.035 OPS
After: .185 average, .577 OPS

Alex Avila
Before: .230 average, .728 OPS
After: .170 average, .526 OPS

Eugenio Suarez
Before: .265 average, .774 OPS
After: .222 average, .561 OPS

Nick Castellanos is 2 for 23 with no RBIs and 10 strikeouts in August.

add in the impatient at bats against sinker ball pitchers and all the ground outs to the infield and gidp.

dumb at bats = out scouted, out managed, and Wally Joyner's head on a stick.

DD better go HARD after Castillo.

Not sure that would help us this year. Nobody likes signing these cubans and having them jump straight to the bigs. Hell, Yasiel Puig was forced to dominate minor league pitchers for a long time. Jorge Soler is still in the minors.. Cespedes and Abreu are the exception. I guess it depends on how seasoned this guy is. He is older than all of them.. but there have been no reports linking Rusney to Detroit.

It's not really a mini slump..the Tigers are under .500 the past 53 games. That's an average team.
