Game 12 Colts @ Lions Thread

fire the fucking coaching staff and the shitheads watching upstairs. bunch of dumbasses and puke playcalling from linehan.
Finding ways to lose since 1957.
Lions have blown three straight home games. no way Schwartz's job is safe right now.
same shit different year ever since 1957, suck ass coaching on the field and upstairs. linehan = conservative playcalling.
gunther cunningham blows dead goats get some competent coaches that are alive.
2 excedrin coming up......

I really (but in retrospect, perhaps foolishly) believed that the Lions' 21st century misfortunes would eventually change once they fired Millen and stopped hiring head-coaches with a surname of "M". Gary Moeller being the first of 4 consecutive M-surnamed Lions' HCes who took over from "Booby Loss" after he quit ~mid-season, actually might have turned out to be a half-way decent HC, but we will never know, since WCF hired Matt Millen as GM in the offseason, Millen then who as we all know then fired Moeller, and hired his own choice for Lions' HC in Mornhinweg (5-27), then Mariucchi (15-28), and last but least Marinelli (10-38) (with Martz as his OC for his first two seasons)

Schwartz has looked very promising as HC, but this season has so far largely been a disaster for him and his OC & DC...all appear to have taken a gigantic step (if not leap) backwards. The last Lions HC other than Moeller's near half-season in '00 (4-3) to post a winning record during his tenure was Joe Schmidt (43-35-7), who like Schwartz (22-38) has a surname beginning with an "S"...hmm.

Apparently the so-called "Bobby Layne Curse" lives on and is going to last longer and could remain strong for more than just a 50 year period...even with a supposedly "elite" QB who was thought by many, especially amongst the more superstitious fans to be the one to finally break the curse, as we all know Stafford came from Highland Park HS, being the same TX high school as Layne, and lived in a house on the same street.

I think they're safe to, but not for the same reasons. More so that while teams with great fortune like the packers and colts follow up having one hall of fame quarterback with immediately bringing in another hall of fame quarterback and a winnig tradition, this team has a shit tradition that involves all the wrong things happening at near perfection of worst times.

For instance, detroit got the highest rookie salaried players right before the new cba which will have the bulk of the money tied into three guys, while the rest of the league enjoys the new rookie cap and it actually frees up money for them. History suggests that whoever is the problem will be there long enough to let whoever we need end up somewhere else. Coordinators will be good enough to let everyone think next year they'll turn the corner.

Feels like my living room window is open and i'm watching a tornado head straight toward my house.

No worries.....we'll have our fair share of new rookie cap high picks...trust me. Today was not only poor coaching but also proof that they have no fucking clue what theyre doing at the end of a game. Were up 2 scores inside our 20 and we throw 3 incomplete passes and take no time off the clock. 3rd n 5 at the end of the game up 5 and we toss sweep? Trying to go up 2 scores vs gb....we run the ball twice. Houston game they fucked up. That's 3 quality wins right there that the coaching single handedly lost the game. Its pathedic.

This game killed my spirit for sure. I saw the patented realizing they are the Lions coach/cursed deer in headlights anger look on Schwartz for the first time when they scored the final TD.

Way too many 4th Quarter defensive mistakes this year. Rams game 10 points, 49ers game, Titans 4th Quarter/OT,Eagles game Maclin TD, Seahawks game losing 21-17 lead, Vikings Peterson 100 yards on 3 carries, Packers game winning drive, Houston 97 yard drive and OT field goal drive and now 14 points to the Colts in the last 3 minutes. This defense is the opposite of clutch this year. So much talent, what a waste.

DE, Safety and CB are much much much needed.

agree with everything you said....But the offense needed to put this one away. We gave them 3 INT's all in great field position.....to many mental farts be Linehan. Why throw the ball 2 times in a row when your up 13 with 5 minutes to go??? If your going to throw make it 5 yard type not 20 yarders....we could have eat another 1:30 off the clock

Incredible admission on many levels, regarding the Colts' final possession:

"We were too relaxed," Lions cornerback Chris Houston said. "Guys get too relaxed instead of going out there and staying focused. You just got to keep grinding. You got to come out there with that attitude. Once our offense scores, then we give up a touchdown."

Agreed the Lions got 3 turnovers and had 3 points only from them. They didn't go for the throat. Defense made plays most of the day as Luck was under 50% mid 4th Quarter, had 3 picks and like 5 3 and outs. Last 3 minutes was brutal though. And it was feast or famine. Detroit gave up a 60 yarder, three 40 yard passes usually when Delmas wasn't in the game. That got the Colts in position for 28 points. Big plays against backups safeties though Carey made 3 really big plays in the game with 2 picks and knocking it away from Wayne in the endzone. But still Carey is the Lions 5th string safety.

Pettigrew had another redzone drop too. Florence had a pick 6 but Lacey blocked in the back, the first Carey pick, Stafford then threw a pick and the last int Detroit had to punt after one first down. They can't finish and they can't run the ball when people know we are going to run.

Plus the strip sack was recovered by the Colts. All 3 strip sacks this year recovered by the Rams, Texans now the Colts.

This team is going to have massive changes with the salary cap issues. KVB,Burleson, Raiola cap cuts. Corey Williams walks. Youngs mental issues could be traded just to get rid of the headache but this Broyles injury throws a wrench into that. Gosder probably gone(unless they make Backus a cap cut, roll with Reiff and re-sign Gosder). Only one of Levy or Durant back so here's hoping Whithead or Travis Lewis can play. Avril depending on the price, but I don't think they can afford to lose their only solid DE. But they can't afford to break the bank for a solid DE either.

Houston,Delmas must be back or the Lions are in even more trouble but they still need a stud safety as Delmas injury insurance. DE is the number 1 need. The DT pressure is there, the DE pressure is not other than Avril flashes every now and then.

Raiola isnt going anywhere...the front office loves him. Hopefully Avril comes to terms he isnt worth more than $8/yr...which would save us $2+M.
Houston & Delmas are a must, SLH should be on the top of their list too

The Lions will be tight with the cap and some veteran has to go. Raiola or Peterman are the most likely. Lions have Bill Nagy as well stashed. Raiola probably had his best year as a Lion though. We'll see on that one.

Agree with the list with Houston, Delmas and Sammie Lee Hill as the priorities. I franchise Delmas given his injuries.

Corey Williams, KVB cut, Burleson cut, and one of Durant/Levy gone. Gosder depends on how much room is left. He may be gone which I wouldn't be upset about given his run blocking.

Avril will test the market and hopefully comes back like Tulloch did.

Anyone on that secondary that actually felt like that, after the kind of year the team had up to that point(?), needed his/their asses beat. That's the most unacceptable shit I have ever heard and I didn't even say it but feel a tremendous amount of embarrassment just reading it.

I was out and the game wasn't on tv in my area so I listened to the game on one of these radio apps I have (TuneIn) and it was from a station in Indianapolis, so of course the announcers were homers for the Colts, which was bad enough.

Listening to that game from the Colts announcers made me feel like a little boy strapped to a chair and getting slapped in the face over and over. They were right about EVERYTHING THEY SAID. When the team was down twelve, they calmy said what any one of us in this forum had going in the back of their minds: "How is this Lions team gonna blow this lead late in the game, after all, they have found just about every way to lose these ballgames (laughter ensues)".

What's there to look forward to next year, besides hearing how this team doesn't deserve a talent like Calvin Johnson? Maybe I'll buy a PS3 and jack all the stats up for the team and beat everyone 85-3. Nah, that won't even help..........

franchise Delmas???...NO WAY. They will probably shut him down(IR) at some point for the rest of the year. He cant stay healthy and for that reason alone isnt a premier Safety.
He can be had for way less than franchise money

Agreed. The safety market is soft though. If he is looking for "franchise" type money than you have to let him walk. He might get it too. I'd hate to lose him.....but he can't play more than 6 games a year, it seems.

Houston is balling, Delmas is Bob Sanders redux. I agree we franchise Houston if we can't get a deal done.

They will try and work long term deals for both. Mayhew dislikes the franchise tag and wouldnt have used it this year if Avril's value wasnt way to high.

As bad as this season is, I believe Schwartz will be back next season. He will get one more chance to right the ship. The coordinators will both be gone tho.

I personally wish they would fire Schwartz...I think he was a good coach to get the team out of the gutter, but we need a legit coach in order to take the next level. If Gruden or Cowher are available, you gotta go get them.

i wouldnt mind a holmgren gm/andy reid HC combo. i fucking hate mayhew.
