Things to know about this game
The Tigers have lost their past seven road games since Aug. 5, including a three-game sweep at Texas last week. They've been outscored by a 54-20 margin in that stretch.
White Sox first baseman Jose Abreu is 12-for-33 with four home runs for his career against Verlander.
Verlander has five games this season in which he has notched at least 35 combined called and swinging strikes. Four of those have come since the All-Star break, including 36 over eight innings against the Dodgers on Sunday.
Verlander has a 2.36 ERA and .189 batting average allowed over his past nine starts, averaging just under seven innings per game. His one vulnerability over that stretch has been the long ball with nine homers allowed, including three at Texas two starts ago. He has allowed more homers to the White Sox over his career (40) than any other opponent, including five in 21 innings last year.
