Tigers have allowed 851 runs so far this season, just 6 short of the 857 that were given up by the last place '08, 74-88 team. Maybe Boyd will pitch well enough to help the Tigers avoid tieing or breaking that total tonight, as well as getting enough run support from the lineup to end their 5 game losing streak and chances of losing 100 games this season. He will also need to pitch economically and deeply into the game, so as to reduce the amount and IP of the Tigers leaky and unreliable BP.
Probably just wishful thinking though, since the twinks SP boasts a 15-8 record, and a 3.34 era this season. One of the Tigers' better hitters who remains post-fire sale, in Mikie Mahtook, will likely not play b/c of re-aggravating his groin injury.
