Game #21 Game Thread Detroit at LA (Hopefully Temporary, not anymore) May 1

Good, LA pitcher has thrown 42 pitches in two innings. Bad is we're down 1-0 after an inning and a half. 5 runners left on base.

Tigers were down one nothing yesterday after one tiger pitch.

Two nothing now crap dumb play by Candlelaria.

Anyway it?s still early..

Tigers just need to turn it on today like they did last night.

And then keep it up for the rest of the season.

Leave it here Tinsel Wolverine, it's good thanks for posting it.

Here's the Lineups:

Tigers lineup:

1. Robbie Grossman RF

2. Javier Baez SS

3. Austin Meadows LF

4. DH Miguel Cabrera

5. Harold Castro 1B

6. Jonathan Schoop 2B

7. Jeimer Candelario 3B

8. Tucker Barnhart C

9. Akil Baddoo CF

LHP Eduardo Rodriguez (0-1, 5.03 ERA).

Dodgers:

Betts

Turner

Smith

Turner

Taylor

Bellinger

Alberto Lux

RHP Walker Buehler (2-1, 2.55).

Anyway, now gap up to 4-0. With Buehler on the mound that?s a sizable hole.

The last 8 or so seasons I've seen some really bad baseball, but the last couple weeks have been embarrassingly bad. Good lord

This team just can?t field at all. 2 more errors today.

Poorly constructed club as of right now.

Two of their top of the order hitters have been terrible (Schoop & Candelario). The defense, which was supposed to be better, is even worse than last year. The pitching has been pretty good except the starters not able to get many quality starts (only 4). The pitching staff has given up 69 earned runs and 18 unearned runs. I have to believe that 18 unearned runs in 21 games has to be the worst in baseball.

The Detroit Tigers have MLB's best bullpen w/2.02 ERA. (No, not a typo.)
So why are they losing all these games?

Their run differential ranks #24 in MLB. It sits at -17. Less than 1 week ago, it was -11. The Dodgers, on the other hand, lead MLB in run differential. Theirs is +44.

Oh look, Another Tigers pitcher is out on the IL, what a Surprise!!!

and a catcher is DFA'ed.

https://www.blessyouboys.com/2022/5...rs-news-roster-tyler-alexander-dustin-garneau
Tigers DFA Dustin Garneau, move Tyler Alexander to 15-day IL with a left elbow strain.
Yet another injury in the rotation made the roster cuts rather simple, though Garneau was still a bit of a surprise.

Preliminary x-rays negative on Robbie Grossman's bruised right hand. It had become black and blue while he was on the bases, so he was removed from game. He'll be examined more in Detroit, but looks for now like he avoided worst-case scenario.

Here is a teaser for an article @rogcastbaseball of MCBTB is writing up today through 21 games.

Team pitching stats
2021 Tigers: 7-14 Team ERA: 4.81
2022 Tigers: 7-14 Team ERA: 3.39

ER allowed 2021: 96 2022: 69

Hits allowed 2021: 159 2022: 159

HR allowed: 2021: 29 2022: 17

Team hitting
Hits: 2021: 139 2022: 159
RS 2021: 67 2022: 67
BA: 2021: .209 2022: .232
Walks 2021: 52 2022: 70

Where the biggest drop is in home runs.
In 2021, they had 25 homers through 21 games. This season, just 10.

The slugging is down from .368 to .322.

Detroit has grounded into more double plays (17) than in 2021 (14).

the Tigers have played 21 games and only scored 67 runs. In those games they have given up 87 runs. They had one blowout victory (13-0) and one blowout loss (10-1)

In the 20 games (not counting the blowout win) they have averaged 2.7 runs per game.

In the 20 games (not counting the blowout loss) they gave up an average of 3.95 runs.

Starting pitching has been below average (4.67 era) which is 24th in the league.

Hitting has been bad, especially two guys that are supposed to be toward the top of the order (Schoop & Candy)

Defense has been terrible.
