Make that 2 for 56.

Hopefully the 4 k's lights some kind of a fire under Miggy's ass and he goes on a tear for the next 15 games.

See the pen gagged another game away this season.

I was tired and left at about 10:15. Got up to check the score about 1:00.
This team never has hitting, pitching, and fielding going at the same time.

Miggy with a f'n golden sombrero is something you never think will happen.
He has some kind of contraption wrapped around one of his feet, can't get around on fastballs, running slower, team wheels are coming off....

NOTABLE:
Zimmermann was hit by a 113 mph come-backer hit by Xander Bogearts in the first inning. After a visit by Tigers athletic trainer Doug Teter, Zimmermann took a couple of test pitches and stayed in the game.
He allowed six hits in his six innings, which saw him throw 94 pitches.
Zimm walked three and struck out three.
Zimmermann has thrown consecutive Quality Starts (at least six innings while allowing fewer than four runs) for the first time in more than a year.
He began the 2016 season, and his Tigers career, with seven consecutive Quality Starts from April 8 to May 11.

Mikie Mahtook, who might have a busy weekend with three lefties on the hill for Boston, started off with a bang on Friday. He hit a 420-foot home run over the corner of the Green Monster in left center, his fourth homer of the year.
He also appeared to beat out an infield hit in the fifth inning, but was called out. The Tigers did not have a challenge available (having used it unsuccessfully earlier in the game).

Miguel Cabrera struck out four times for the first time since April 19, 2016, against the Kansas City Royals.

Red Sox first baseman Mitch Moreland homered and doubled against Zimmermann and added a game-tying RBI single in the eighth. He's now 11-for-19 with six doubles against the Tigers in five meetings this year.

Iggy had three hits Friday, the fourth time in his last nine games he has had at least a trio of hits. He?s batting .441 in that dreamy stretch and is hitting .396 in his last 14 games.

J.D. Martinez also had three hits and is batting .421 in his last five games.

Castellanos and Justin Upton extend their hitting streaks to eight games. Castellanos has knocked in four home runs during that stretch, an excellent sign given his struggles in May.

Before Bradley Jr's homerun off A. Wilson, Lefties entered Friday just 6-for-43 with no extra-base hits and seven strikeouts against him.

Webvideo Highlights and lowlights of the Tigers loss to the Red Sox.

ROARS:
Victor Martinez ? made it on four times in the game, with two hits and two walks, scoring one run. He actually showed a little speed, coming in on the Justin Upton RBI in the first. Nice to see some pep in the designated hitter?s step, and more pop in his bat, too.

Mikie Mahtook ? he might not see a lot of play time, but when he does, he certainly makes use of it, belting a home run into the Green Monster.
Mahtook has homered in 3 of his last 5 starts.

Mahtook was also decidedly safe at first base in the fifth inning, but the Tigers had already used their challenge and were unable to request a replay. Which leads me to...

HISSES:
Replay calls ? sure, the wasted challenge by the Red Sox was overturned in about ten seconds, but it took over two minutes in the fourth for the umpires to incorrectly determine Castellanos was out at first, in spite of my replay angles clearly indicating otherwise. What?s the point of replay if not to get the calls right?

Alex Wilson ? the Tigers were winning up until the bottom of the 8th, then Alex Wilson squandered the lead established by Zimmermann and held by Greene. He gave up three runs on four hits, striking out no one. His failed pick off attempt ? which resulted in an error ? was another big red mark for the night. No bueno.

Like I said in the previous post, going to bed after the 7th inning, and previous to that about having a bad feeling about the end of the game,
I saw enough of Hembree and Kelly, and Barnes was warming up for them, each of those relievers throws gas 98 Plus, that is a real bullpen, and add to that the closer Kimbrel 27 innings and over double that in Strikeouts.
just knew our bullpen would shit their pants,

Innings 7-9

Offensive Runs = 15th in AL (28th MLB)

Pitching Runs = 12th in AL (25th in MLB)

Certainly the pitching is a concern. But let's not overlook our inability to score runs after the 6th inning.

Why not add our ranking for innings 1-6?

I understand breaking down the late inning pitching vs early, because it is usually the bull pen vs. the starters.

AL ranks

Starter

ERA 12th
Whip 14th

Reliever

ERA 15th
Whip 15th

AL Batting

OPS 4th
OBP 5th
Runs 4th

I really don't care too much that the Tigers are ranked low in late inning offense...based on the rankings, it seems the offense is mostly holding up their end. The pitching (and defense) is what is hurting the Tigers the most.

I think it's just saying our late innings suck.. All around..

But if you get 5 runs in a game, does it really matter what inning you got them in?

It's an apples to oranges argument anyway. Comparing almost the total job(bullpen innings) to 33% of the offenses body of work isn't a fair representation IMO

No but giving up runs I think it matters.. I mean giving up 5 is giving up 5 but it' points out the BP sucks..

I actually think the offense, ranked top 5, is a misnomer.. When I look at so many not hitting well: Miggy, Kinsler, Nick, MCCann, Iggy for much of the year, Mahinsuck and when we had Mr. 0 for 30 etc.. So even though they're ranked 5 the hitting still lets of us down..

This is a top 3 offense and it hasn't let me down. A few players have(Kinsler, Miggy, VMart), but that even makes it even more impressive what the overall offense has done.

The pitching has been the problem with this team, period. Not just the bullpen either.

The hitting too or else I wouldn't be reading in every game thread about bases juiced and nothing, or another K, what was he swinging at etc.. Every game.. The hitting doesn't get a free pass because they happened to be top 5 scoring in the AL. Blame the pitching more, and the defense but hitting lets them down plenty..

Well we disagree on this

hitting will let every team down because the nature of the game. The best hitters fail 70% of the time. So, when the bases are loaded there is still a 70% chance that they will fail.

70's from getting a hit. Though for a team it's more like 75% of the time.. But failing getting a hit is one thing, how about not putting the ball in play to plate a run.. Like a simple fly out or ground ball the other way instead of SO or popup.. Assuming less than 2 outs. Honestly I'm not sure what others are watching when they sitting hitting is not a problem at all.. Especially when we have many all stars, last year even, to not hitting near the same..

I'm not saying they are the reason like pitching, and defense .. but they are at faults at times too.

the AL team average BA is .252 and the Tigers are at .253 so your 75% is accurate. I was talking about good - great players having a 30% success rate
