Notable:
The Tigers can win their first series against the Rays in almost a year. They swept a four-game set in Tampa June 30-July 3, 2016 before losing all three in their first series against the Rays this season back in April.

Entering Sunday, Miguel Cabrera had 10 hits his past six games, including five doubles and two home runs, raising his slugging percentage more than 50 points in that stretch.

Tigers outfielder Mikie Mahtook had hit safely in nine straight games. He's 11-for-26 (.423) during that stretch.

Today will mark Buck Farmer's second career appearance vs. Tampa Bay.
In his first game against the Rays, Farmer pitched one-third of an inning and allowed two hits and one earned run on a home run. That gave him a 27.00 ERA and 6.00 WHIP vs. the Rays. Colby Rasmus is 0-for-2 against Farmer with two strikeouts.

Faria has no experience against Tigers hitters, while Farmer has faced just one player currently on the Rays.

Rookie right-hander Jacob Faria, 23, has been outstanding in two starts for the Rays since making his MLB debut June 7 against the White Sox. He beat Chicago 3-1, allowing three hits, two walks and striking out five in 6.1 innings. He followed that gem with an 8-1 win at Toronto, also going 6.1 innings while allowing six hits, one walk and striking out eight. He has yet to allow a home run.
The sample sizes are tiny, but through 12 2/3 total innings, Faria has allowed nine hits off his fastball (9-for-27) and none on any other pitch, according to Statcast.
Opposing hitters are 0-for-19 combined on his slider and changeup, while seeing 13 curveballs but putting none in play.

In honor of Father's Day, all dads attending today's game will receive a free pair of Tigers socks. All children 14-and-under will receive an Ian Kinsler poster.
 
Personally I rather Avila play 1B and Miggy DH to get more rest on his bones..

This Farmer when he came up this year had 2 outstanding games with 0 runs,
idk what went wrong recent starts including today, but damn he is getting hit like his previous time with the Tigers. Pitches, too many of the same pitch, tipping them, not using a pitch that worked in those first 2 starts. idk.

So it would seem that he will be sent back down and Sanchez will give us his trick or treat offerings, 2 good innings then give up 4 runs with a couple of bombs,

team goes west coast, for 7 games, ugh.
 
Today is either the 4th or 5th game the Tigers are getting beat by a rookie pitcher with 2 or 3 ML starts in his career and they can't do a thing against him.
 
The game’s start was delayed 31 minutes by pregame rain.
The Tigers wore their standard home uniforms but with light blue lettering and light blue hats for prostate cancer awareness. Blue-stitched baseballs were used.

After the game, the Tigers sent Farmer down to Triple-A Toledo and will activate starter Anibal Sanchez for Monday’s start at Seattle.

NOTABLE:
Alex Avila, who was the Tigers' DH, extended his hitting streak to five games when he singled in the first and scored on Justin Upton's single. Avila has hit safely in nine of his last 10 games.

The Tigers were limited to six hits. Avila and Dixon Machado had two each.

Logan Morrison's two-run homer in the first gave the Rays the lead for good. He also hit a solo homer in the seventh to make it 9-1. It was the fifth multi-homer game of his career.
Evan Longoria and Derek Norris also homered for the Rays.
Longoria homered leading off the seventh and Morrison hit his second home run on the next pitch. It was the ninth time this season the Rays have hit back-to-back homers, tying a club record.

Mallex Smith's two-out single in the fourth inning for Seattle extended his hitting streak to 10 games.

Rays starter Jacob Faria is unbeaten in three career starts after making his MLB debut June 7. Faria (3-0) allowed six hits, one earned run, one walk and struck out nine in seven innings.

The Rays earned a split in the series with the Tigers by winning the final two games. That also gave them a 5-2 win in the season series with Detroit.

Mikie Mahtook's nine-game hitting streak for the Tigers ended when he struck out leading off the ninth.

The Tigers are back to four games under .500, their low-water mark they've been at twice before.

Farmer threw 61 pitches but they all came in the first 2 1/3 innings, three of which left the yard for home runs, including his final pitch, sent to left-center for Steven Souza Jr.’s third-inning grand slam.

Farmer (2-2) had a 0.00 ERA with 16 strikeouts in his first two starts,
but a 25.07 ERA and six strikeouts in his last two starts.

Chad Bell ended his day with six strikeouts through 4.2 innings, and two earned runs.
Warwick Saupold and Daniel Stumpf concluded the game with an inning of work each, not giving up any further hits to the Rays.

ROARS:
Alex Avila continues his campaign of domination by chipping away with singles, and scored the first run of the game off an RBI single from Justin Upton. He collected another single, and a walk later in the game, proving he has no intention of slowing down offensively.

Dixon Machado was making some serious defensive plays, including one over-the-railing catch by the Tigers dugout. Machado also collected two singles during the game.

HISSES:
Buck Farmer was... not good.

The offense, once again, was painfully quiet. An early rally in the first inning was the most the Tigers could muster, and for the remainder of the game they were unable to muster any real threat against the Rays. Only Avila, Machado, Upton, and Alex Presley were able to collect hits.

STREAKS & INFO:

Miguel Cabrera passed Jeff Bagwell for 171st all time in Games played with 2,151.

The Tigers have had one four-game winning streak all season and, other than that one to start June, they haven't won more than two in a row since the start of May.

The Tigers are tied for second in baseball right now—with the Boston Red Sox—for game length, with an average time of 3:19. Number one? The Tampa Bay Rays at 3:21.

Typically the Tigers fare well agains the Rays at home, and this is the first time they haven’t won the series against Tampa since 2014.

May 7, 2016 was the last time the Tigers gave up five home runs in a single game.

Fox Sports Detroit refused to air this, but our thanks to this brave idiot champion for giving Warwick Saupold some extra time to warm up.
Although, he might win the award for dumbest thing to do after getting onto the field.
Well, one #Tigers fan has had enough. He runs onto the field and lies down on his stomach, accepting his handcuffed fate. No chase needed.

This team makes no sense the rays don't hit lefties well so why Boyd wasn't planed ahead of time for this series and recalled to start today in place of farmer is beyond my comprehension, instead Sanchez is recalled to start tommorrow? Makes zero sense, he still blows. The tigers lack of logic is unacceptable and it's time to fire these brain dead brass member idiots.

Today's game was very unimpressive as well and incredibly boring..I don't think I can continue to waste much time following this jeckyl and Hyde clown show, I'll check box scores and tune in here and there to keep up with how miggy is doing and keep the HOF thread updated from time to time for as long as he's a tiger but all in all I'm checking out from this team they are not fun to watch consistently enough to make it worth the while and the disappointment runs too deep. :-(
