Game 7 Tigers vs. yankees April 3, 2019

Wow! Great win! 4-3 is a hell of a start on the road. Especially with Miggy supplying nothing

Agreed. This is the complete opposite of what I expected, which was poor starting pitching and mediocre bats.

Crazy stuff.

Game 1 - 4 hits Win 2-0
Game 2 - 2 hits Loss 6-0
Game 3 - 5 hits Loss 3-0
Game 4 - 10 hits Win 4-3 11 innings
Game 5 - 2 hits Loss 3-1
Game 6 - 11 hits Win 3-1
Game 7 - 3 hits Win 2-1

4-3 is pretty incredible when you look at it. We're super lucky we're not 0-7 or 1-6. We are averaging just 5.3 hits per game and 1.7 runs per game. We're hitting .169 as a team with 2 HR's. We've been fortunate enough to get a couple of timely hits while the pitching does all the work.

Pitching has been great. Giving up just 2.14 runs per game. Hard to believe we are averaging less than that offensively.

Add this Tigers do have 2 Homeruns both game winners games 1 and 7.

The Yankees struck out 18 times overall, a team record for a nine-inning game.

A year after winning 100 games, New York has opened by dropping two of three to both the Baltimore Orioles and Tigers, teams that combined for 213 losses last season. New York already has 10 players on the injured list and may soon add another ? shortstop Troy Tulowitzki was pulled with a strained left calf.
Boyd became the first Tigers pitcher to open the season with consecutive double-digit strikeout games since at least 1908. He punched out 10 in a 6-0 loss to Toronto last Friday.

New York entered with a franchise record 47 strikeouts through its first five games.

Boyd?s 23 strikeouts ? he struck out 10 against the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday ? are tied for third-most by a pitcher in his first two starts of the season since 2000. Boyd showed an excellent slider. He allowed one run on five hits, with three walks and 13 strikeouts. In the no-decision, he became the first Tiger starter since at least 1908 to open the season with back-to-back double-digit strikeout performances, according to Baseball-Reference.

According to Elias, the Tigers are the third team since 1900 to win four of their first seven games while scoring 12 runs or fewer. The other two teams: the 1913 Philadelphia A's and the 1971 New York Mets.

... The 11 total runs scored by both teams in the series ties the second-lowest total for a three-game series in the history of the current Yankees Stadium. A series with Toronto in 2017 netted 10 runs.

... Matthew Boyd's 13 strikeouts was a Yankee Stadium record for a visiting pitcher.

... Tigers pitchers combined for 18 strikeouts, tying the club record for most in an nine-inning game -- the last time it happened was in 2013 against Atlanta.

... Tigers pitchers struck out eight of nine Yankee hitters between the sixth and the ninth. Boyd fanned the last four batters he faced. Buck Farmer struck out the only two batters he faced and Joe Jimenez struck out two in the eighth.
