Game 73 Detroit Tigers @ Atlanta Braves June 18, 2024 4:20 p.m. MST

Hitters are just too comfortable in the box vs Mize. He needs to start pitching in more. Make then move their feet. He hit 11 guys in his last full season and only hit 1 guy this year.

Last 5 games runs scored.

Freaking pathetic.
1. Loss
1. Loss
1. Loss
13. Win
0. Loss.

I really hate this team. This is all Scott Harris fault. Just not sure about him
at all anymore.

I’d have pinch hit for Malloy. He is Batting .160 but he does have 2 homers. There isn’t anyone sadly.
They don't pinch hit for Kelly?

Not sure they have anyone better ? Andy can’t hit righys . Jake has 2 more homers but he strikes out a lot more. This is a really poor roster Scott Harris has put together.

Atlanta 2 - Detroit 1: Early runs spell doom.
Shaky starter, snoozing bats. At least the bullpen was solid, so we’ve got that going for us. Which is nice.
BYBTB

Tigers shut down by Saginaw's Schwellenbach in 2-1 loss to Braves.
Detnews

Detroit Tigers fall five games under .500 for first time with 2-1 loss to Atlanta Braves.

Saginaw rookie with an ERA close to 6.00 shuts down sputtering Tigers offense.
Mlive

So since Spencer has gone down Toledo has a losing record with him starting.
we were at least around .500 with him at first base. We are now 5 games below
.500. Just strange.

Idk give him, Meadows, Jung, and Dingler the call up.
Come on Harris call them all up.

Hell call up Lee from double A and Max Clark and McGonigle too from Low
A. Maybe we can run fast for some runs. Lakeland is close to 100 steals in 63 games.

Send Kreidler and Mckinstry, packing, trade Kelly or Rogers away. , send Baddoo packing too.
Not sure about Malloy. I so want him to be good but .160 something yikes !!
Trade Gio and Mark away from prospects. Trade Jack away for prospects.

I’m just kidding but I’m desperate for more hitting then once every 5 games.

Recently losing streaks have hit Toledo and Erie a tad. Lakeland is still 40-23 but blew a 3 run lead in the 11th. Other team scored 4 in bottom of the 11th.

Meadows for sure . Baddoo gone. Tigers have to try something.
Idk try something.

How would Tork help? And Max Clark, c'mon. Just accept the team isn't any good but don't promote just to promote.

WATERCOOLER WEDNESDAY.
Totally Tigers

Yesterday, I blogged about how the Detroit Tigers keep making changes to their roster as they attempt to build a foundation and core group of players.

If we focus solely on the positional players, just how many positions will turn over by the start of the 2025 season?
For this poll, we are going to ignore the utility players. Potentially, for those under expiring contracts, it is possible that the Tigers may extend a contract or two, however, we’re going to ignore Mark Canha given the surplus of outfielders.
We are also not considering Akil Baddoo, Justyn-Henry Malloy and Ryan Kreidler given their short amount of time in Detroit so far.
As well, Matt Vierling is not part of the conversation given that he plays 4 different positions without having a singular “home.”
There are also several MLB-level players currently in Toledo. We will assume for this conversation that they will return to Detroit this year.
Here is how the roster currently appears:
CATCHER – Jake Rogers, Carson Kelly (exp. contract)
FIRST BASE – Spencer Torkelson
SECOND BASE – Colt Keith
THIRD BASE – Gio Urshela (exp. contract)
SHORTSTOP – Javier Baez
LEFT FIELD – Riley Greene
CENTER FIELD – Parker Meadows
RIGHT FIELD – Wenceel Perez, Kerry Carpenter
Out of these 8 positions, how many of them will turn over by Opening Day 2025?

How many positions will turn over by Opening Day 2025?
1-2
3-4
5-6
7-8

I know it's early, but calling up Malloy was probably a huge mistake. He doesn't play the field and can't hit. Probably would have been better off letting him continue to hit really well in Toledo and trade him. In today's game, having a DH that doesn't play in the field is a waste of a roster spot unless he hits 40+ bombs!

The mistake was not putting him in the field to if he's adequate or not. At least partially.
