Byproduct of holding offenses back just far enough to keep them in long range. If we could pin them back 5-7 yards deeper, they wouldn't even try.

Most NFL kickers have had some degree of success, even if it's just practice, from 60+ yards. When you hold them into that 52-58 yard territory, the coaches are going to let them try it.
