Bruce Rondon is back in the big leagues and he could face his old club as soon as today.

The Chicago White Sox purchased Rondon's contract from Triple-A Charlotte on Sunday.

Rondon, 27, signed a minor-league deal with the White Sox in February after spending 10 years in the Detroit Tigers organization, including parts of four big-league seasons.

The Tigers declined to offer a 2018 contract to Rondon last December. He would have otherwise been eligible for arbitration.

He was once considered a top prospect who might develop into an elite closer.

But he ended his tenure with a miserable 2017 campaign, giving up 19 runs on 21 hits in 15 2/3 innings and not even earning a September call-up to Detroit after being demoted to Triple-A Toledo.

The White Sox needed another reliever after optioning Juan Minaya to Charlotte following Saturday's game. Minaya struggled in the cold, walking four consecutive Tigers in the ninth inning.

Rondon has pitched at Guaranteed Rate Field eight times before while wearing a Tigers jersey. He's so familiar with the stadium that he accidentally walked into the visiting clubhouse before the game until Miguel Cabrera pointed him in the right direction.
