WORTH NOTING
Following Martin's leadoff single and stolen base, White Sox catcher Welington Castillo was charged with a passed ball, allowing Martin to advance to third. Two pitches later, Martin scored on Cabrera's sacrifice fly to left field.
* The only run allowed by White Sox starter Reynaldo Lopez was unearned after the scorer ruled a ball that went to the backstop in the first inning was a passed ball, not a wild pitch.
Leonys Martin, who had singled and stolen second, advanced to third on the play. He then scored on Miguel Cabrera's sacrifice fly.
* Former Tigers reliever Bruce Rondon made his Chicago White Sox debut on Sunday. He entered in the eighth inning to face Miguel Cabrera.
Rondon was pumping heat, firing fastballs at 99 and 100 mph. He nearly got Cabrera looking on a low fastball, but then followed that up with a slider in the dirt that Cabrera chased for strike three.
Rondon returned in the ninth to strike out the side in order. Nicholas Castellanos and Mikie Mahtook went down swinging; Niko Goodrum was K'd looking.
* The Tigers attempted three stolen bases in the early innings Sunday. Martin and Niko Goodrum both swiped second before Dixon Machado was thrown out in a close play in the fifth.
The Tigers have been aggressive on the base paths this series. Goodrum has three stolen bases this year, just one behind the American League leaders.
With today’s win, the Tigers completed their first three-game sweep of the White Sox in Chicago since September 12-14, 2011.
At 4-4, they're at .500 for first time since June 7 of last year, when they were 29-29.
Perhaps Leonys Martin's ears were burning while Ron Gardenhire discussed Dixon Machado as a leadoff option. Single, stolen base, passed ball, Miguel Cabrera sac fly.
The 2013 Tigers had 35 stolen bases. The 2018 Tigers are on pace to beat that total by May 20.

Gameday.
After a miserable spring, Mike Fiers did his best to answer doubters with a dominant debut performance Sunday at Guaranteed Rate Field.
Fiers threw six shutout innings, striking out six, to lead the Detroit Tigers to a 1-0 victory and a series sweep of the Chicago White Sox.
Mike Fiers was shaky in the first inning but responded strong. In the first, he allowed a hit, walked a batter and hit another to load the bases with one out, but he danced out of damage. … Overall, Fiers was fantastic. He allowed three hits, struck out six batters and walked one.
He got 15 swings and misses (seven off his four-seam fastball) and 15 called strikes (10 off his four-seamer).
Fiers survived early trouble, including a bases-loaded situation in the first inning, to coast through the middle innings. When he departed, he had retired 11 in a row.
Rarely exceeding 90 mph on his fastball, Fiers relied on location to induce soft contact. After the first inning, the White Sox never seriously threatened him.
Tigers relievers Alex Wilson, Daniel Stumpf and Joe Jimenez pitched scoreless seventh and eighth innings to turn the game over to closer Shane Greene.
The Tigers won with two or fewer hits for the first time since July 11, 2004 against the Twins. … Both hits were singles by Leonys Martin. … They drew five walks against White Sox righty Reynaldo Lopez.
Alex Wilson relieved Fiers, recording two outs. Daniel Stumpf relieved Wilson, recording one out. … Joe Jimenez pitched the eighth inning, recording his sixth scoreless appearance of the season. … Shane Greene picked up his second save in the ninth inning.
The Tigers stole two bases and were caught once. … This series, they stole seven consecutive bases and went 7-for-9 overall.
With closer Shane Greene on the mound in the ninth inning, Avisail Garcia reached on an error by third baseman Jeimer Candelario. Candelario made a slick backhand play, but lost the handle when he tried to transfer the ball to his throwing hand.
But Greene induced a 6-4-3 double play by slugger Jose Abreu and struck out Matt Davidson looking at a 95-mph fastball.
