Tigers' last 12-game losing streak was in 1996. They had two of those that year. Todd Van Poppel and current bullpen coach A.J. Sager took losses during the last streak.

The Tigers hit .222 during the June, while the pitching staff combined for a 4.79 ERA.

Jos? Iglesias had the best month, averaging .304 with six doubles, two triples and nine RBIs.

Victor Martinez, 39, hit .223 with three doubles, no home runs and four RBIs in 26 games for the month. He has not recorded an RBI in the past 12 games. He hasn’t hit a home run since May 19, a span of 35 games.

Jones hit .192 with two doubles, two triples, one home run and seven RBIs in June. He had 28 strikeouts and five walks.

McCann, 28, batted .150 with one double, no home runs and three RBIs in June. He had 17 strikeouts and two walks.

Martin and Castellanos suicide squeeze and grand slam the Tigers into a 5-1 lead.

Zimmersucks has actually pitched a good game, 7 innings 1 run 0 BB 6 K's 97 pitches.

come on bullpen!!

Hardy relieves Zimm in the bottom 8th, gives up a leadoff single.

Including this start, Detroit starting pitchers have thrown at least 6.0 innings in 5 consecutive starts, the team's longest streak since July 28-August 2, 2017, when they had six consecutive starts of 6.0-or-more innings.

Nice to see starters allowed to throw more than 80 pitches again!

Tigers found their hitting shoes.....whoa Nick got robbed of another homer by pilar.

Tigers lead 9 - 1 heading to the last chance for blue jays.

I think it's safe to say the losing streak is over.

Boxscore.

Fourteen days of frustration for the Detroit Tigers finally came to an end on Sunday afternoon in front of a big Canada Day crowd at Rogers Centre.

Nicholas Castellonas hit a grand slam and starting pitcher Jordan Zimmermann was nearly flawless as the Tigers beat the Toronto Blue Jays 9-1 to snap an 11-game losing streak.

The skid was the longest since 2003, when the Tigers won only 43 games.

The new streaks? The Tigers (37-48) are 1-0 in July and 1-0 since a team meeting was held Sunday morning to let players vent.

With two outs in the fifth inning, there was little that suggested the Tigers were on the verge of snapping the streak.

But then Niko Goodrum and Jose Iglesias reached on singles. JaCoby Jones walked to load the bases. Leonys Martin, who struggles against lefties, came up to face Happ.

On the first pitch, Martin put down a perfect bunt on the third-base line. Happ had no play.

On the very next pitch, Nicholas Castellanos crushed his team-leading 13th home run of the season and fourth grand slam of his career to give the Tigers a 5-1 lead.

In the sixth inning, the story was the same. Happ retired the first two batters, then gave up a single to James McCann, a double to Goodrum and a bloop two-run single to Jose Iglesias.

The rare offensive explosion overshadowed a very strong outing by Jordan Zimmermann, who allowed just one run in seven innings.

In his last five starts (including two that came before his monthlong stint on the disabled list), Zimmermann has posted a 1.24 ERA in 29 innings, striking out 23 and walking five.

WORTH NOTING
* Tigers outfielder JaCoby Jones broke an 0-for-20 skid with a double in the third inning. Jones' slump was preceded by a nine-game hitting streak from June 9-23.

* Tigers center fielder Leonys Martin left the game in the fifth inning after running out a bunt hit.

Victor Reyes entered as a pinch-runner and remained in the game as a left fielder. Jones shifted from left to center.

* Niko Goodrum, who entered the game with just three hits in his last 34 at-bats, went 4-for-4 on Sunday, including three hits against J.A. Happ.

UP NEXT
The Tigers and Jays wrap up a four-game series on Monday at 1:10 p.m. Right-hander Mike Fiers (5-5, 4.04 ERA) will pitch for the Tigers. The Blue Jays have yet to announce a starter.

Tigers finally bust their losing streak.

The reds went on to sweep the cubbies in 4 straight, then took two out of three to the braves, they have performed much better since their awful April.

The indians finally hit their stride in June.

The mariners are genuine threat to take the AL West, despite the astros obscene run diff. But now they are both noticing that the a's image in their rearview mirrors.

If any fanbases should be disappointed in their teams' peformances so far this season, they are the Los Angeles dodgers and esp angels of Anaheim.

Yes, thank you. With all the recent losing this is why we watch, for a game like this.

Okay, I think this Tigers team can do it. Only 7 more wins to eclipse the 2003 team.

Niko Goodrum is first Tigers rookie to go 4-4 (or better) since Quinton Berry on June 17, 2012, who went 5-5 that day.
First Tigers rookie to do so while playing 2B since Jake Wood on August 8, 1961.

Goodrum is so much better than I though in March.. Plus he can play several positions.

Too bad about Martin, hope he's back soon.
