Three things to know about this game:
Having spent most of his career in the NL, Zimmermann's sample size against the Indians is only three starts. But none of those starts have ended well, as he owns an 0-2 record and career highs in ERA (10.67) and WHIP (1.674) against them.
During his three-start resurgence in early June, Zimmermann held opponents to 3-for-26 (.115) on his slider, according to Statcast. In his three starts since then, he's allowed a .286 batting average (6-for-21) on the slider.

Seven Tigers have faced Carrasco for at least 20 plate appearances. Of that group, J.D. Martinez has had the most success, going 8-for-22 (.364) with two homers and seven RBIs. Alex Avila has struck out in 10 of his 19 at-bats against Carrasco.

How much longer do Tigers fans have to put up with "in over his head" Al Avila, + "still learning on the job" Ausmus??
This team has been told since February that any player would be traded for the right deal. They are just waiting for the other shoe to drop. No sense of urgency at all. Lost season, lost past 3 1/2 years with assmus, lost past 2 years with Al Avila.

Indians starter Carlos Carrasco threw an "immaculate inning" in the top of the fifth, meaning he struck out the side on just nine pitches, all strikes.
Carrasco is just the 78th pitcher in Major League history to accomplish such a feat, according to MLB.com.
He retired the bottom third of the Tigers' order, Nicholas Castellanos, Mikie Mahtook and Jose Iglesias.
Carrasco also struck out the side in the sixth (albeit in non-immaculate fashion) and finished the night with a season-high 11 K's.

Indians center fielder Bradly Zimmer recorded his first career three-hit game. He hit a mammoth homer in the sixth, but his infield single in the seventh was just as impressive. He beat out a seemingly routine grounder to first base using speed and hustle.

Indians second baseman Jason Kipnis doubled twice against Zimmermann on Friday and is now 7-for-10 with three doubles, two triples, a walk and four RBIs against him in his career.

The Indians had four infield singles -- two in the third against Zimmermann and two in the seventh against reliever Blaine Hardy.

Detroit pitching yields 12 hits, 6 for extra bases, and 7 walks.

The Tigers were embarrassed tonight at Progressive Field, playing to a 11-2 loss, looking like a team who knows its fate has been sealed.
The question no longer is whether the Tigers will sell before the trade deadline: Their performance over the first three months of the season has given the front office a clear answer.

In his last three starts, Zimmermann has given up 14 runs and 17 hits in 12.2 innings. He had posted four straight quality starts before that.
He didn?t have very good command of the strike zone (45 strikes, 73 pitches) and he didn?t have his best pitch (the slider). In the fatal five-run third, he gave up a double to Jason Kipnis and a two-run double to Michael Brantley, both on looping sliders.

That's the whole point. Verlander, even if he pitches 3 really good starts, has more value staying then leaving. Trading just because he has a big contract is lame.

the goal is to trade his contract and get prospects to help re-stock the farm system. He only has 2 year left. The Tigers will not be in contention during that time frame. The more prospects they have, the better position they will be in down the road.
