Game 92 Cleveland Indians @ Detroit Tigers July 9, 2024 3:40 p.m. MST

Shoot. Dang.
Tigers 4-6 n extra innings now.

Feels like those 4 wins were really early.

Boxscore.

Guardians 9 - Tigers 8 (10 innings): Big comeback falls a little short.
The Gritty Tigs came back from six runs down, but they let the game slip away in the tenth.

Tigers have won 3 of the 4 extra inning wins in first Six or seven games of the season.
1-6 since. Yup agree we struggle to manufacture runs.

They did manufacture a run, GB keith the 3rd, FB Keith scores. That's the def. of manufacturing a run.

Not enough and you and I both know they need to be better at this. We have wasted to many good to great pitching performances because we could not scratch a run or 2 over the plate. If I counted the games right the tigers have lost two games by the score (1-0) games Six by a (2-1) score and one game by (2-0)
They have won two (1-0) games , and three by the score of (2-1) . There is on game that was (3-1). I am sure I missed some on either side but that is about 4-6 games in which scratching a run or two would have really helped.

They got two more hits and couple of those outs were hit well. Compared to rest of the season the 10th was played well. And what did you expect? Detroit is an under .500 team - with some players who can't hit. It's not like we thought this season they were going to win. I mean we have a player like McKinstry on the team the whole season. Our AAA replacement is Baddoo.

WATERCOOLER WEDNESDAY.
Totally Tigers

Now that Riley Greene has been selected to participate in this year’s All-Star Game, along with teammate Tarik Skubal, the question about whether he will be invited to play in the Home Run Derby has been brought up.
It is considered to be an honor with an award and $1 million in prize money to the winner. However, in recent years, the HR Derby has earned a reputation of being a “jinx” because of a pattern of participants who go on to have significant downturns in their production for the rest of the season.

It is attributed to the unnatural and manufactured event, the physical stress created and repeated swings with exaggerated launch angles that throws off timing and “messes with the swing.”
The Tigers have not had a representative for this event in over a decade.
If invited, should Riley participate?

The Detroit Tigers exhausted their last hope in an effort to replace Javier Baez at SS after this year. Ryan Kreidler used up his best chance to show he could stabilize the position and got sent down recently.
Kreidler outperformed Baez in spring training and he was told as much. But Baez's contract gave him the job. Unfortunately, Kreidler then broke his hand for the 2nd time and just recently came back from the IL.
Could his injury have factored into his weak performance in Detroit recently? It's highly unlikely he'll be back in Detroit this summer unless he puts up stats that can't be ignored.
No matter what, the Tigers need a solution for next year not named Baez. The Tigers rank as having MLB's worst SS stats by a mile and are about to set a record. Keeping Baez would signal that the Tigers can't pull the trigger for change and prioritize the status quo over winning.

The Detroit Tigers certainly have enough options to play 1B. Vierling is the 4th player now to man the position. If they are training him for this new position, it means that Spencer Torkelson is nowhere near close to returning this season.

Colt Keith is batting .357 (20-for-56) with 5 HR and 10 RBI when batting second in Tigers order, including 11-for-26 with 4 HR since moving into No. 2 spot full-time last week.

According to Stathead, Colt (4) trails only Al Kaline (5) and Willie Horton (7) for the most HRs in a 6 game span for a Tiger player age 22 or younger. First to hit 4 since Omar Infante did in 2004.

Kenta Maeda (via an interpreter): "There's definitely frustration. Nothing really is going right at this point, and I'm causing too much trouble to the team, and I feel sorry about that."

INTERVIEW: Riley Greene talked about earning his first All-Star Game selection. The Tigers outfielder is excited to share the experience with Tarik Skubal, revealed what his main goal was for the 2024 season, and who he called after AJ Hinch told him the news.

Brieske hit in the shin by a comebacker and he came out for Chafin.
