Game 98 Detroit Tigers @ Toronto Blue Jays July 19, 2024 4:07 p.m. MST

They got Hao yu lee for a lorenzen rental last year. He's a fringe top 100 prospect.
For a 3.58 in 19 starts a fringe top 100 prospect is not much. Flaherty should be netting a top 30 prospect. I can't imagine we get that..

Red Sox walk bases loaded to get to lefty Freeman. Left on left he hits I think his 7th or 8th grand slam. Tigers move to 6 out of the wildcard race.

Tigers have won 11 of 15. In that span they’ve scored 62 runs with 22 of them coming in the 7th or later. 35% of their runs have come when it’s mattered the most. The Tigers aren’t just beating teams, they’re breaking their backs.6.5 games back in WC.

SATURDAY SURVEY.
Totally Tigers

There is a chance that Mark Canha may be traded within the next 10 days. Since the demotion of Spencer Torkelson, he has played the most games at 1B.
What should the Tigers do if this happens? Who should take over first base?
Andy Ibanez, Gio Urshela and Matt Vierling have all played games there this year and done a solid job. Recently, Detroit has accelerated Vierling’s training there in expectation that Canha would be traded.
All 3 have played most of their games in the infield.

Should the Tigers use Ibanez, Urshela and Vierling (w/the most reps) to fill that position for the rest of the year?
Or should they bring back Spencer Torkelson? A. J. Hinch had originally said that Tork would only be recalled if he made changes to his mechanics, became more reliable at the plate and improved his defensive metrics.
Torkelson has been in Toledo since June 3rd and it was speculated that he would remain there for the rest of the year. But a trade of Canha may change those dynamics.

All, but Tork, are either neutral or plus defenders. Here are their offensive stats:
Andy Ibanez .288/.329/.439/.768 (career-best year)
Spencer Torkelson .237/.344/.393/.737 (minor league stats)
Gio Urshela .252/.289/.342/.631 (on expiring contract)
Matt Vierling .248/.287/.439/.726 (2nd on team in HRs)
How should the Tigers handle 1B should Canha be traded?

If Canha is traded, who should take over at first base?

1. Vierling, supplemented by Ibanez, Urshela.

2. Recall Torkelson from Toledo.

I would be shocked if anybody would want him.

Canha at best would net a 20th round draft pick, if picks were allowed to be traded. No one is going to ask for Canha.
