Of course he walked back from his zero tolerance policy. It's the NFL, can't field a team if you have zero policy.

At least he never called this season "a success" like most of you guys thought. That being one of the reasons for keeping Caldwell around...

Good season. Only one team has success.

Bryant was worth the pick up but then got hurt. If he can keep out of trouble, worth bringing back on a cheap one year deal.

Quarless and Orson Charles were barely on the roster.

Imo Quinn is the right man to turn this shit show around..lions are on the right track

Finally after all these years I'm hopeful for the future

C'mon, haha. One think I know about Lions fans - we were hopefully when Millen was hired and all the bums before or after. This team will not win a title until we're all old men.

And coming from someone that said they already gave up on the Lions early in the season. But now an 0-4 stretch, keeping Caldwell you're more hopeful?

sure why not, what else is there but to be? for record I was never hopeful with MM after his first year. They could do worse than Caldwell, I just don't want McDaniel ever coming here as the HC. I liked how Quinn said those last four games were a real eye opener for him and showed him that they have a lot of work to do and are a long way away from even thinking about super bowls yet. I think he gets it and see what we all see. which is a lot of holes and a lot of work to do. I trust him a lot more in the drafts than the previous guy that's for damn sure. I was right to thrown in the towel early in the season as well, It doesn't take long to see if they are going to be any good or not in a season. When they couldn't beat the GD bears and then Titans at home cuz they couldn't f'n score in the red zone it was clear as mud right then and there they weren't going to amount to a hill of shit this year. I'm glad Quinn see's how terrible they currently still are now as well. Can't get better if you first don't admit you have a large number of gaping holes.

I just have a problem with Caldwell's reasoning. Like the Dallas game, tied 21-21 at half - RB does well but yet the 2nd half they switch him. His reason was something about game plan. And he makes mistake like this all year long. He stinks as a HC, and any GM who thinks he is a worthy HC might not be a worthy GM.

i'm not slobbering over him just saying it could be worse. I do wish the coaching staff were a little quicker on the adjustments for sure. IMO the reason they went away from Zenner in that Dallas game was because the cowboys made defensive adjustments at half that the Lions had no answers for. that was the bigger problem, coaches couldn't come up with any viable adjustments. They seem to do a decent job coming up with good game plans given the time to study but then very slow to adjust or have a plan B and C ahead of time to counter adjustments by the other team. don't disagree they need to get better as well, all of them, Jimmy bob Caldwell Cooter Austin (if he's back)

He had like 1 or 2 carries in the 2nd half? Not enough to take him out because Dallas adjusted.

The funniest thing when people, including Quinn talk about bringing Caldwell back, it's not mentioned once that he's returning because he's actually a good coach. It's always, "continuity, familiarity, comfort, stability, calm." Everyone uses every adjective to describe Jim Caldwell other than calling him a good coach.

Quinn's guy is in New England. That's my guess. Babyface McDaniels is going to be the Lions new HC in 2018. When I first read that McDaniels took himself out of any HC job for next year, I immediately thought of Detroit for 2018. Sure enough....an article comes out today that McDaniels is eyeing the Lions and the Titans as his next HC gig. Caldwell is going to have to win a playoff game in order to get extended IMO.

I agree, he needs a playoff win. Of course we all need a playoff win it's been so long.

Yeah, I'm with you on that. I think it's McDaniels too.

He was set up for failure and was in over his head at Denver. I think he's ready to take this gig now.
