Good read on Caldwell

Gotta love when writers guild the lilies a bit.

If Calwell was everything that article made him out to be, he would heal the sick, walk on water, and would win 5 SuperBowls his first season in Motown, all while beating Chuck Norris at arm wrestling.

That having been said though, many of us were very disappointed when he was hired instead of Wisenhunt. Mayhew said he was the top choice all along, but we all knew that was total crap. They didn't get the guy they wanted, and Caldwell was Plan B.

I was one of those guys to be sure. I knew Caldwell had success and his peers thought highly of him, but so many question marks, and so sketchy the track record. I was okay with the hire, but I was far from thrilled.

In retrospect, it's been a good hire. His demeanor is perfect, and his professional approach is second to none. He's made some questionable decisions from a discipline point of view, but he's clearly been successful here in year one, and I imagine it will get better with time.

He may even be the guy to finally put the Lions in the playoff talks every year.

Wisenhunt is busy in Nashville wrecking another team. I think it's clear now he's still a ways from being head coach material with his handling of the players, and I think his trip to the big dance in Arizona may have been more the players he had winning despite the coach, than the coach taking them to the promised land.

All in all, I'm pretty happy with Caldwell. I'd like to see something done about the offensive play calling, but I'm in "wait and see" mode there.

Caldwell didn't get my juices flowing when he was hired, but then again neither did the prospect of the Wiz. Both were retreads who won on the backs of future HOF QBS. I was super pumped when the coordinators were hired. Austin is that guy you are talking about Ink who can arm wrestle Chuck Norris and keep us in the playoff hunt year after year. Lombardi? Boy was I ever wrong there. He straight sucks.

That is simply not how it works man. Austin is calling the plays in Caldwell's playbook.

It's Jim's system, and Terrell is executing it to perfection. A good coach hired a great unknown D-Coordinator, but that just speaks better yet of Caldwell.

Good managers hire great managers.
