GOP scandal machine swings into full power

Maybe but not this hardcore:

Hmmm....that image reminds me of another wingnut whackjob, but female:

A desirable conclusion to the IRS's misfeasance would be its own abolishing.

...

Hardcore MichChamp is here to partly to attack Obama though, he's the one who posted the link to the article about the phone wire tapping scandal.

...

the mainstream media appears to be actually fighting back over this one... and they can afford to hire big powerful corporate law firms (like the one Holder came from) and PR agencies to fight their battles. They've been blasting off nasty letters to the DOJ and trying to get members of congress involved.

I will be interested to see how this plays out. so rare we get to see fights like this play out publicly!

I think Holder may have to resign over this one; this is one issue neither party wants to really fight over, because it has the potential to shine a flashlight on all sorts of abuses of executive power that both parties have enjoyed, and want to continue to enjoy.

Guessing Holder... or at least the Deputy AG who seized the phone records, will admit their mistake and step down, maybe even getting a censure from the state bar assoc, and that will allow business to continue as usual.

Or maybe they'll put a horse's head in the CEO of the Associated Press' bed, and the whole thing will just go away.

so... what it appears to me is that they were just doing their job: scrutinizing the applications of tax exempt organizations.

the issue is really that they either applied additional scrutiny to Tea Party losers applying for tax exempt status, or did not apply equal scrutiny to other groups during the same time period.

...and apparently the acting head of the IRS when this abuse occurred was a Bush appointee.

...AND the IRS under Bush had subjected the NAACP and some anti-war churches to even more extreme measures, threatening to revoke their tax exempt status completely!

Which of course doesn't make the current abuse okay, but just puts the "outrage" over this scandal in context.

I think this is hardly a basis to do away with the IRS though, and it's not like I enjoy paying taxes any more than you do.

"Tax exempt status" is something we all should have without any organization's permission. That's the "context" of this ongoing scandal that is now 100 years old. And the verdict is in on whether or not the IRS was maleficent: by nature it is, which is the precise reason why it has no place in a free society, which is obviously why it exists in ours.

which makes me wonder if this wasn't a planted scheme from day one.

order a little more scrutiny on some Tea Party groups... but don't actually DO anything to them.

and then VOILA! you have a ready-made, screeching headline generating scandal to rile up the Tea Party inbreds, and keep anything you don't like off the front page of the news for a while, or keep Obama occupied with meaningless scandals, instead of doing actual business.

like right now, there's an initiative in place (with bi-partisan support) to start capping the size of the "too big to fail" banks. and this being the summer time, when there's not a lot of other news, there's a chance it might start to get some media coverage outside of a handful of financial blogs, liberal blogs, etc. obviously, though, this scandal is more important to pay attention to...

there are countries out there with lower tax rates, or that are functionally unable to collect taxes because they have no effective central government.

so I'm not sure why you're still here.

Or any of the tea partiers for that matter. if paying a portion of your income in exchange for a more stable, lawful society is that distateful... you can move.

I don't think Somalia collects income taxes.

That's a switch: You telling me to "love it or leave it." I'm saying there are other answers than taxing income to fund government. But you know that already, and engaging in debating the issues is not in your interest, anyway.

We are paying a lot more than our "portion" of our income and, if you think we are living in a "stable, lawful" society, well, your standards are not that high.

If it were planned like that, I would think they would have pulled the trigger sooner. Other than that...I'd like to be a skeptic, but really can't justify skepticism anymore. Since they think the dems were planting people with racists signs at their rallies and few reacted to it, I could see them trying to play up charges of persecution.

The US Government announced today the discontinuation of Federal Income Tax Collection. The Government will be funded solely on the proceeds from it's eBay auctions of the states of Wyoming and Nebraska.

Finally, the wealthy people can enjoy their spoils without having to contribute to the system that let them become wealthy in the first place. It was also announced that anyone living below the poverty line will be rounded up by the "as of yet unfunded military" and shipped off to Guantanamo Bay, or southern California and or Massachusetts. One government spokesperson was heard saying; "If those Liberal commie socialist fags love the poor people so much they can have them!".

Income tax mostly hits middle/upper middle class. It doesn't touch the 1%.

Well..."doesn't touch" is a stretch, how about "doesn't hit". 15% is at least a touch if they can't find the loopholes to dodge it.

I was not really making an argument, strawman or other. I was simply being facetious, which I thought was pretty obvious. Perhaps not.

But I do like that pic, I should use it in the Umpires thread.

Know what's funny? Just seconds before I popped back onto this thread, I was thinking that disagreements between folks on the political board never seem to carry over to the sports boards.

We adhere to a strict separation of sport and state.

I like when the two overlap. I always thought most of the RichRod Excuse Makers were GOP.
