List is from HOF website. I added Ichiro even though I doubt he'll get a vote!

Again, it's difficult to compare players from different eras. Lotta greats; Ott, Ruth, Aaron, Kaline, Clemente,FRobby, ichiro...Ruth should probably win, as he's the most iconic player in baseball by far.

The only real comparison to Ruth would be Wayne Gretzky. In the 80s, Gretzky made a mockery of the record books. Ruth did the same in the 20s.

Jeez

.342avg 714HRs 2213RBIs 123 SBs 2062 BB
.305avg 755HRs 2297RBIs 240 SBs 1402 BB

However, Ruth was a good pitcher as well. Though Hank Aaron was a gold glover and maybe we should factor in that he was black (racism and such would be hard to deal with).

Yea but Gretzky's stats are so inflated. The NHL expanded so fast that they didn't have enough quality players to fill the rosters. It would be like the NFL expanding and adding 10 teams that are just full of scrubs. Imagine Aaron Rodgers going against what would be CFL quality teams lol. Though gretz is a beast.

Aaron also played a lot more. And Ruth's other numbers like OPS etc dwarf Aaron.

Did Aaron? thought they both played like 22 seasons or something like that.

Didn't everyone else p.ay against those same "scrubs"? Like Yzerman, maybe he wasn't as good.

Over 3000 more plate appearances.

Kinda, the years where stats were inflated cause of expansion was the first 5-6 years of the 80s. Then those scrub teams finally started getting competitive and much more talented. Yzerman I think was a rookie in what 1984? So he caught the end of it, but there were still some bad teams out there. However, Edmonton was stacked back in the day and the Wings were not.

.342 to .305 is pretty significant in itself. It doesn't belittle Aaron's average but shows how great Ruths was.

Yea Ruth was great, still would take Cobb over him. But, like everyone is saying in the other threads how do you compare player from different eras?

They both played a long time! But looking at Ruth's stats, again diff era's, but his stats, like OBP, slug, are mind boggling!

Kaline will get my vote, call it what you want...
I know he isn't the best RF all-time, but how could I not give my vote for my favorite Tigers' player.

That said,
Ruth,
Aaron,
FRobinson,
Ott,
Kaline,
Heilmann,
Crawford,
Clemente,
Waner,

Fielding and Throwing arms with Consistent Accuracy, Kaline, Clemente, Ichiro.

Yea those numbers go back and forth. Ruth's average was much better, but Aaron had the SBs way ahead of Babe. HR and RBI small edge to Aaron, while BB and OPS go for Ruth. However, Aaron had more plate appearances and Ruth was a valuable pitcher. But, Hank Aaron was a much better fielder and base runner.

Ugh both were great. Both had huge impacts on the game.

3000 more PA is like 5 seasons. Con you imagine what Ruth would have done in those 5 seasons. And he was on his way to being a HOF pitcher. Different eras not withstanding its hard IMO not to see Ruth as more dominate.

Agreed. I still can't figure out Ichiro. How can he have a gun of an arm. He looks like my niece.

It took a lot for me not to pick Kaline myself.
