Each of these great Tigers pitchers are Aces from different eras.
I would also include Bunning, Tommy Bridges, McLain,
Verlander is on pace to be the very best of all of them and become an inner circle all-time great.

I honestly don't see McClain on any "Ace" list.

He was fantastic in '68, and very good in '69 and '65.

But he was mediocre to terrible the rest of his career.

I tried to limit it. I did not add Dauss because he did not really pitch in big games often. I did not add Bunning because he went into the HOF as a Phillie. McLain had a shelf life. The other guy I could have added was Lary. In the end, I think Verlander will be the man...but he is not there yet. I went with Morris. Although, Lolich and Newhouser are the only T pitchers to win a Game 7. I should have included Bridges. That is an error on me.

These may be your most misinformed posts that I've seen on this forum.

First off, this topic was about Tiger Aces. What McClain did in his last couple years has dick to do with this argument because he wasn't with Det. McClain pitched 8 years with the Tiger's(not 10). Of those 8 he pitched 5 complete seasons and 3 partial. Of those 5 he won Cy Young's in 2 (68 and 69). The other 3, he was very good(65) and good(66 and 67). So for his 5 years stretch that he pitched full seasons with Det he was very good, good, good, great and great.

As far as JV, I no doubt think he will pass McClain and possibly everone on this list. However, he's had 8 seasons with Det(not 6). He's been great the last 2 seasons and, a mix of good to very good for 4 and one horrible season(08). Cy Young last year and a possibilty of one this year.

So if JV never pitched another game, right now they have nearly identical career numbers. If I had to pick between those 2 right now I'd say McClain winning a ring and JV being horrible in the postseason so far would be the difference.

*also, 4 out of 5 of those season's he outpitched a player on this list(Lolich)

Yet you include a season where McClain pitched 3 starts and 2 years he didn't even pitch for Detroit. Yeah, that makes sense....

Its hard to vote. I never saw Newhouser pitch and barely saw Lolich. Btw, JV blows Morris away and I'm a huge Morris fan.
