Mike Florio wrote an article about yesterdays games and included a bit about Hanson. I found it interesting so I thought I would share, it's nothing we, as lions fans, didn't already know though.

Jason Hanson should be a Hall of Famer some day. Hanson, the Lions? 21-year veteran kicker, is the oldest player in the NFL at age 42, and has played 314 games with the Lions, the most games any player has played with one team in NFL history. But Hanson doesn?t just have longevity on his side, he has one of the most impressive kicking legs the game has ever seen. On Sunday against the Titans he went 4-for-4 on field goals, making kicks from 47, 53, 33 and 26 yards. That 53-yard field goal was the 51st field goal of his career from 50 yards or farther, the most any kicker has made in NFL history. Oh, and when Lions punter Ben Graham went down, Hanson stepped in and punted flawlessly, averaging 39.3 hards a punt and landing one of them inside the 20-yard line. Hanson probably won?t make it to the Hall of Fame because kickers are remembered for big field goals in big games, and the Lions haven?t been in many big games in Hanson?s career. But the Hall of Fame is supposed to be about individual greatness, and there?s been no greater kicker in NFL history than Jason Hanson.

Change "haven't been in many big games" to haven't been in any big games.

he's not going to make the Hall of fame anyway, kickers don't get into the hof

He wont have a bust in there, but there needs to be something like shoes or jeresey just for how long he has played and how he has been able to hit long field goals even at an elderly age.

I think his cleats and Jersey or something went in there a few years back when he broke 50+ record.

I like everything about Hanson (as does every Lion fan), but for the reason listed above he should be nowhere near the HOF.

There are lots of reasons that kickers shouldn't be in the Hall....but big game kicking shouldn't be one of them. It should be a look at the entire body of work....just as it should be for EVERYONE!!

That's not the way it works. That's why when said and done, all sports, they talk about how many AS games he's been in and title games and big shots. Might be wrong but they all do it.

So is Robert Horry a HOFer? That guy hit A LOT of big shots?

One kicker in the HOF, gentlemen. Kickers don't get in and Hanson won't either.

I'm don't think he will, just questioning the criteria if another were to get in. I dont think Hanson should be excluded of consideration because of the lack of "big games" he has kicked in.

Read what I wrote. Instead of jumping to a dumb-ass conclusion.

So I can't ask you a question without you saying I'm jumping to conclusions, Smykowski??
WTF?

My point was pretty simple. I think Hanson's body of work speaks for itself. Regardless of if he hit "big game" field goals or not.

You through-out the name Horry because you thought that's what I meant. otherwise why bring him up in the first place. That wasn't a question but a conclusion you thought Horry is the one I had in mind.

Lol.....that's not even close.

Funny that the guy telling people not to jump to "dumb-ass" conclusions did just that.

Hanson has never had to make a big, pressure kick in a meaningful game. Right or wrong, that's why we all know Adam Vinatieri's name...because he made clutch game winning kicks in the playoffs and super bowls. Hanson has a great record because of longevity and it's not his fault he played for poor Lions teams for more than half of his career. But it's a much different story to kick a game winner against Minnesota during week 9 when your record is 3-6 then stepping up and drilling one in the playoffs.

He's been here 20+ years and I've watched every game during his career. If I had to put a highlight reel together for the guy...well I'd need a lot of help remembering his big kicks....or it would be a really short film.

Then why bring him up?

To see, in your opinion, if someone who only has marginal career numbers but excelled in the post season is HOF worthy? Was there another way I should have worded it so you would have understood my question?

I didn't say that. I said there is a reason people bring up AS games and titles and such because people go by those. Its nothing new. You understood what I meant and where did I say they were the only things that matter. The NE K and his huge kicks wouldn't mean the same if he didn't also have a stellar career.
