And he plays RF. That way Garcia has a full year to acclimate himself to majors while learning from one of the greatest RFers of all time. Ichiro could hit 2nd and play great defense still and automatically becomes best baserunner on the Tigers team, even at age 39. Also if he signs for 2 or 3 years, he could get his 3,000th hit in a Tiger uni, which would be cool.
Lineup with ichiro
Austin Jackson-R
Ichiro-L
Miggy-R
Prince-L
V-Mart-S
Dirks-L
Peralta(or new SS)-R
Avila-L
Infante-R

Couldnt be mad at a lineup like that. Can you say balance?

if we sign any veteran OF to a short contract, it should be torii hunter. ichiro can stay far away from the tigers, we need someone who can play offense AND defense, not just one of the two. ichiro is not good offensively anymore.

I agree with you. I think that the Tigers should look to sign Hunter or Swisher, preferably Hunter. I don't think Ichiro has much left as he has shown this year. His defense may still be okay, but he is not what he used to be at the plate at all.

Torri Hunter would be perfect if they can get him for no more than 2 years.

cody ross is another option...less glamorous than the other two but he'd still be an upgrade over the debacle we had this season at that position.

I think Tori Hunter is going to stay an Angel and it would take too much money to lure him away.

Nick Swisher will also cost too much money...I've heard whispers of a Werth'esque type contract which is horribly overpaying for him.

I think Hunter gets a good deal else where.

Angels are making him one of their primary targets and he is making 18 million dollars per year. Even in a perfect world where Hunter takes a paycut (lol) you're still looking at 15 million per year minimum. I know the Tigers can't afford another salary like that so that really limits his market.

2012 Away

Hunter .314 BAVG .832 OPS (.802 OPS at Anaheim)

Ross .232 BAVG .684 OPS (.921 OPS at Fenway)

Last 3 years Away

Hunter .288 BAVG .815 OPS 92.48 RC/650

Ross .233 BAVG .686 OPS 67.63 RC/650

I wouldn't touch Ross at all.

did you seriously just compare Cody Ross to Tori Hunter rebbiv?

There isn't a person on the planet that wouldn't take Hunter over Ross. The issue is at what cost?

Ichiro is feasible depending on what it is he wants. I agree with Tom in that a two year team friendly deal is the goal so as to give time to Castellanos and Garcia to come around.

You brought up Ross as an option. I was showing how his offensive stats are well below normal and he wouldn't add much over what we have, except some defense.

Ichiro - for the right price
Pagan - definitely
Swisher - overrated as an outfielder, so no...
Hunter - ugh
Ross - for the right price
No-one has mentioned either one of the Uptons...pricey-er but a longer term solution...

#1, Ichiro is never going to come to Detroit.

#2 I would not want him anyhow. We need real corner OF'ers after the shit we had this year, we need guys who produce, and drive in runs. I'd love Torii Hunter, I would have liked Soriano, but Ichiro is a singles hitter and occasional base stealer, who's time at being good at the plate is coming to an end.

Obviously Hamilton would be great, but he's not reliable and going to cost a fortune, I think we can get Hunter for 2 years at about 17 million.

The Rangers are going to make a run at Hunter especially considering he is from Texas and that could magnify even more so if they lose Hamilton which is highly likely.

I have read that Hunter wants to stay in Cal....doesn't mean he will though.

As a bench guy?

Cause I ahve to believe that with Wells, Trout, and Bourjos, Hunter is going to end on on a bench if he stays in LA, unless he goes to SD, or LAD.
