I thought this was Hockey Town

I don't watch hockey but I just saw that there wasn't even a thread about the Wings. Maybe it is a fringe sport.

Or maybe Wings fans are just more mellow than other fans. I mean, I watch most of the games every year and even go to a dozen or so. But we have arguably the best front office in the league. We have one of the top coaches. Even in transition years we are in the playoffs and going toe to toe with the best teams in the league. We won yesterday in a close game score-wise, but completely dominated the opponent.

The people following the Wings may just not have anything they need to talk about (that's the case with me). Fans know we have a lot riding on the development of young players, but also know that the Wings have traditionally done quite well with development. We know we still have a handful of stars, even if they are getting old. We know we are going to the playoffs (longest streak of all major sports in America), and that's when the real season starts.

Sometimes you just light up a fart in the room and smile as we hold our nose. Not that often, but sometimes.

NHL hockey is my #3, but i find the season too long and don't really start getting into it until after the football season...err, Lions and Wolverines football seasons, finish. I watched the 2nd and 3rd period last night though. Now that they are playing in the East, I'm hoping to catch more of their games. But I don't usually get involved in threads on here during games, preferring to just watch the game without reading the thoughts of others. I do sometimes, but it is rare.

1. Wolverines football
2. Lions football
3. Wings hockey

That's how I roll. NBA sucks donkey dick.

It's tough to do a game thread for a hockey game. Very few breaks in the action to worry about typing on your computer.

It's official. Because there was not a game thread for the Wings game, no one in Detroit cares about hockey.

I'm not talking about a game thread. There were no recent threads about the Wings prior to the season starting. Every other area sport has a shit ton of threads about the upcoming season, game threads, prediction threads etc.

Well, there hasn't been a whole lot going on with the Pistons either. Flat out, hockey is not as popular as Football. We have a particularly active baseball community here as well. I do think some of it has to do with variance and star power. Coming into the season, there were just a lot more questions and concerns about the Lions. The Tigers have two MVPs and a CY Young winner on the team, with another Cy Young frontrunner this year. People want to talk about that.

The Wings are exciting to watch, but they don't have a serious MVP candidate or Norris candidate. Howard is unlikely to win the Vezina. The Wings just do what they've always done - win games, make the playoffs, and be a threat for the Stanley Cup. It's not boring, but talking about it can be pointless to some degree. If everyone already knows the team will be good and nothing major happens to shake up that image, everybody will just have the same talking points and opinions.

I agree with most of this. I was just pointing out that even in "HockeyTown" NHL hockey is irrelevant when compared to other major sports.

When the Pistons start the season that board will start being more active. It was much more active in the off season than the Wings and the Pistons sucked last year!

When you make the playoffs as many times in a row as this team, the regular season loses it's luster. @Buffalo?? Not very exciting.

Seeing as this board can trace most of its members back to ESPN...

If most of the ESPN Red Wings posters went elsewhere, then you probably won't find much here, regardless of how popular it is.

As for the Pistons, the ESPN board wasn't all that active anyway near the end.

The Pistons are still around? I thought they got retracted.

Most all of the regular espn RedWings posters went to another V-Bulletin site called Sports Hoopla.

Mabre321 started the sticky thread, I occasionally add to it, but I am stretched to the max.

Tom, Instead of adding another complaint/sarcasm post, take the bull by the horns and post some RedWings news yourself. That works!

Wow....now sarcasm is going to be outlawed on this board too?

atta boy, only read and comment to a part of what I posted....
Why don't you add the RedWings info yourself??

because I don't care too much about Hockey. I posted this thread wondering where all of the Hockey fans were. I was pointing out that compared to other sports the NHL is mostly irrelevant even in HockeyTown.

Most wings fans I know are football first and consider hockey's first half of the season to be something to keep an eye on but not get worked up about unless something amazing happens, like a winning streak or something. This board is relatively dead until football ends, then it gradually gains steam as playoffs get closer. This has been the norm even back to the old espn board days. Not sure why this isn't a known thing by now.

Oh, and the NBA sucks more than Notre Dame.
