If they were serious about fixing this D, they'd fire Gunther and hire Keith Butler. Butler has been working under LeBeau for the past 9 years and has been groomed to take over when LeBeau retires. Bring in the Steelers defensive pressure schemes and 3-4 concepts. This would be the perfect year to switch and pickup the personal during the draft. Fairley and Suh would be our DEs in the 3-4 and SLH could be our nose tackle. Levy would be our OLB and Tolluch ILB. Draft Te'o at #5, Xavier Rhodes in the second, and Brandon Jenkins in the third.

There's plenty of talk about how cap strapped the Lions are this year but I think people are anticipating Mayhew over paying to keep Houston and Avril. I think there are deals out there, and plenty of young vets that won't break anyone's bank. DRC has been stuck in mud playing for the Eagles, Mike Jenkins wasn't happy in Dallas, and Brent Grimes is coming off an Achilles tear. Safeties are cheaper than corners, that's why I went with Rhodes rather than a S, go out and get LaRon Landry in FA. We'd have the tools and personal, to consistently put pressure on the QB and hopefully a top 10 D.

2 DEs, 2 OLBs, 1 CB and 2 safeties. He can get Delmas, Houston and one OLB back. Draft a DE and safety. That would be your 5.

We are short a DE and OLB but that's probably internally with Whitehead, Lewis or Palmer at OLB. Other DE, still have Willie Young but we'll need one more free agent DE probably on the cheap unfortunately. The good news is that player is probably still better than KVB. Even like an Idonije 1 year stop gap or something like that.

Any system can work with the right personnel. The wide 9 worked in 2010, but KVB has gotten slow and it takes longer to get to the QB being out so damn far. By the time they do get to to the QB, the secondary gets abused. Plus no chips on the TE and the run game is effected and outside of SLH the Lions have no pure run stuffer.

kinda like that over-rated and over-hyped MSU LB from awhile back...what was his name? greg jones??? the guy who was great against bad teams but was too small to get off blocks from good teams and constantly got blown out of the hole by blockers and was only able to make tackles 5+ yards down field vs good teams.
