In case anyone cares

if you can stream, i think they post it on youtube sometimes

Thanks for posting the link. I?ll watch later.

on another board, I saw a write up of a weekly local Ann Arbor radio show that had some commentary from Devin Gardner.

He said it looked like to him that Patterson really got shellshocked by the fumbles and started playing bad. He said it reminded him of how he played against Akron in ?13, where he got rattled early and then missed throws and blew plays for the next 3 Qs

Playcalling. On the show, they also said of the 12 straight runs late that had everyone freaking out, many of those were RPOs that Patterson didn?t read correctly and throw. And many of the handoffs he should?ve taken it himself.

of 12 run plays, only 5 of those should?ve been Charbonnet carries; the rest should?ve been passes or keepers.

They faulted the coaches for leaving the playcall options with Patterson when it was clear his confidence and judgment were off. They should?ve moved away from the RPO and read option calls.

If true, and Patterson was not suffering an oblique injury, then this DOES explain a lot. And when they did call passes in the 2nd OT, Patterson missed his throws. again... could be rattled. Could be nerves.

Coaches gotta coach him up. Maybe this was a warning sign he?s not as mature as they thought. Doesn?t mean he can?t do the job, but he might need more hand holding than they expected.

I’ve read the same about Patterson misreading the RPO but also speculation he’s handing it off because he’s hurt (doesn’t want to run and can’t pass effectively).

I think there’s something to the oblique injury as well as the confidence issue.

Just had a thought: given how ineffective our offense was with a QB that had some possible combination of injury/mental issues after a couple hits, and given how his backup broke his collar bone after only a couple plays... in garbage time... last year, maybe this idea we should regularly use our QB as a running threat isn?t so hot?

like ?hey we came up with the PERFECT OFFENSE. Now we just need to find a QB with a titanium skeleton and tendons and ligaments made of rubber.?

This type of offense seems to be working for the best teams in the country.

It would help if we had a QB who could make it past his first read. Kind of a big deal. I really thought Patterson would make a leap forward this season, but he's the same guy as last year.

Last season, I may be wrong, but I remember them working in Patterson?s runs later in the season, and it coming as something of a surprise to defenses because it wasn?t a tendency we were known for.

Doing that more often this year, I don?t think he?s physically capable of doing what we?re asking of him. I don?t think McCaffrey is either. and so I think it?s foolish to put that on the players and insist we need to go heavy RPO- and read-option offensively because ?every body?s doing it.?

Well, what if they all jumped off a bridge?

It doesn't all have to be RPO stuff. We could do simple things like throwing a god damn bubble screen when Army's CBs are playing 10-12 yards off the ball all game long. Why make them pay for that when you can beat your freshman RB to death in his 2nd career game?

It's stupid shit like this that we can point to over and over and over that drives me crazy.

We need a competent passing game more than anything. Rudock is the only QB to go over 3000 yards since Navarre. That is ridiculous.

Is Wolverine available for the Wolverines? Now, THAT I'd like to see! We wouldn't have to worry about a passing game.

He is, but isn?t he known more for his running than passing?

Right. He'd be so great at running the rock, we wouldn't have to pass at all. First two defenders lose their hands and it's clear sailing the rest of the season.
