From the "where are RichRods asst coaches now" file.....

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Memphis defensive coordinator Jay Hopson has resigned after being told he would be reassigned to a new position for the Tigers.

According to the team, second-year coach Larry Porter named Mike DuBose and Galen Scott co-coordinators Wednesday.

The Tigers (0-2) have allowed a Football Bowl Subdivision-worst 628 average yards on defense in a 47-3 loss to Arkansas State on Saturday and a 59-14 loss to Mississippi State on Sept. 1.

The 42-year-old Hopson was in his second season at Memphis.

DuBose, who coached Alabama from 1997 to 2000, will continue coaching the defensive line, and Scott will continue coaching linebackers.

It doesn't surprise me. Every assistant under RR except McGee sucked.

I'm shocked! I mean, OUR defense never allowed such seive like numbers under RR- Oh WAIT! I had that part of my memory blocked.

why would they expect anything different?

Can't remember the O-line coach's name, but I wouldn't say he sucked.

Was McGee's game plan that great?? I would be curious how he would have functioned without Denard. I saw the same play called every time, Denard left, Denard right. They caught lightning in a bottle with D-Rob, and even then, a lot of the big offensive numbers came against garbage teams and in garbage time. I never bought into the fact the offense was as great as everyone claimed. Yards are fine, but they had no clue how to punch it in.

Eh, I think this is sour grapes more than solid football analysis. Every offense has plays it calls staples; shit, how many times in the Carr years did we see play action run left, rollout the QB right and hit the TE on the intermediate route? How many times did we see Hart, Perry, Thomas, etc running a guard trap? If anything, it's more impressive that opponents knew who was getting the ball and couldn't consistently stop it.

To be honest, I saw more diversity in Lloyd's playcalling than Rich Rods, which is saying quite a bit. Lloyd may have been very fundamental, but he incorporated the entire team in the offensive scheme. Tight ends, fullbacks, WRs were all used. RR/Magee's scheme was all evolved around deception, and one man. The TE and fullback basically disappeared for the last 3 years, and WRs became glorified blockers for Denard.

628 ypg! Wow! That's crazy even over only a two game span. And one of the opponents was Ark St.
