So with Detroit only 1 point out of 9th place the question is if the Wings do in fact miss the playoffs what happens to the new head coach? I think they keep him but it would sure be uncharted waters for the first time in many many years. I think he is signed to a 3 year deal right?

I don't think we should forget that the Wings finished all of two points ahead of 8th place last year, and 4 points ahead of ninth. The year before that they were in 8th, only 3 points ahead of 9th. The year before that they were 7th and only 1 point ahead of 9th.

That was with Babcock, arguably the best coach in the league at the helm. I don't see how we could fault Blashill enough to fire him when even Babcock was just scraping in the last few years. It's not like the team has quit on him or is massively underperforming. If we miss the playoffs, I think it is going to force Holland to make some riskier moves with the roster, but not with the coach. The players still love Blashill.

Yeah very good assessment I agree. I am torn with wanting to move some prospects to just staying the course. But Holland needs to be better. I wonder if M. Was right maybe missing the playoffs for higher picks may help. No I'm not ready for that because I love playoff hockey and I do think the wings are good enough to make a run but I just don't know.

I like being spoiled and having playoff hockey every year lol..

I can barely remember a time when the Wings weren't in the playoffs. I'm not that old, but still. Missing would be a huge deal to me.

I can't rationally consider bottoming out because it rarely works, and talented prospects still take years to make an impact. Not to mention, the Wings are already great at drafting. Larkin is arguably the best player out of his draft. Nyquist and Tatar are playing like quality top 6 forwards. This isn't an old old team getting worse every year. If anything, the team should only improve as they graduate more prospects and develop the young guys already on the team.

I do think, though, that it's time to cash insome of our chips. Use some of these prospects that are good, but can't beat out other young guys for someone established. Go out and get a top line defenseman, or a high scoring wing. There simply aren't enough spots for everybody to make the team, and there are single player upgrades that could make a big difference to the teams play.

To be fair I do not think he said bottoming out I think he said just missing the playoffs..

I will admit I am very spoiled as a wings fan...lol. I'm just frustrated with the way they are playing. This team needs a #1 dman so bad its not even funny. I would love to see Shattenkirk on this team. I was just venting the other day. I want them to make the playoffs because I love playoff hockey as well. To me, nothing is better than playoff hockey in all of the 4 major sports. It would be good to get Larkin some playoff experience. Andreas Athanisou was called up. Excited to see him play versus the Islanders tomorrow. He looked good earlier in the year. Kid can fly just like Larkin.
