Texas sent nothing to the Angels. Texas agrees to pay him $7M of the $80M that is owed him over the next 3 seasons. Hamilton agrees to cut $6M off of his $80M. Angels effectively paying $67M of his $80 owed and get nothing in return.

It is pretty embarrassing for Hamilton in some regard...we're going to give another team 67 million dollars just so you are no longer part of our team or organization. We don't want anything in return....just for you to never be here again. Of course he still collects his pay check so I'm sure he doesn't care too much.

There must be a lot more to his relapse than was reported publicly. Paying him $67mil to go away is insane.

I'm sure it's pretty much that "he sucks and they don't want him anymore."

2013-2014 Away (LAA) .331 OBP .483 SLG .814 OPS .323 BABIP 8.0% BB (injured)

2010-2012 Away (TEX) ..358 OBP .534 SLG .891 OPS .344 BABIP 7.6% BB

Is Hamilton overpaid? Yes. But so are a lot of players. Does he "suck"? Not in my opinion. When healthy, he is still above average in a park neutral setting. The question is how much his relapse has effected him and we won't know that until he returns.

The road numbers are nice but if he's not hitting at home I guess they determine they don't want him.

You can't seriously think them eating that much money and getting nothing in return was because of his stats.

Either there is far more to the relapse story than we have heard, or he was causing some kind of mass chaos in the clubhouse.

Well until we know for sure it's just a guess on both our parts. Players sometimes get let go because they aren't any good. Just my opinion and it's plausible as any other.

We'll just disagree then.

Personally, I don't find it at all plausible a team would eat $68 million because he's "just not any good". He had a down year in 2013 and an injury plagued one in 2014, but he was still serviceable.

Hell, the Tigers wouldn't eat 11 million over Nathan and he was way worse than Josh was.

As I said, there has to be more to it than him just under performing.

They might have, on Nathan, if he hadn't been out for the season. That's the thing about a forum, different opinions.
