Kickoff Coverage

was it me or did it seem the kick coverage was slow. It seemed like no player was inside the 35 when the player was returning the kick. It needs work

I think the kicks were low and kind of short. Don't know why we can't get a kicker that can kick the ball into the endzone. WMU's kicker was kicking the ball at least to the goal line.

Was beyond horrible Saturday... if this keeps up i would prefer a squib kick every time..

Anyone realize the number of starters that participated on kickoffs??

Yeah it looked like dog shit. They need to figure this out asap. We'll be playing against much better return men soon.

I think a lot of it has to do with Wile's actual kickoffs. They're like line drives to the returner so it gives basically no time for our kick coverage to get back there. Wile needs to get his kicks higher or else I'm not sure even the best players around him are going to be able to cover that.

Danny Diggler[/color]]When does Haggerup come back? He's usually the kickoff man correct?

Nope, Wile was always on that job and was named the starter pretty early on in summer workouts. Haggerup has only done punts as far as I konw.

Hagerup kicked off last year. Not sure if Hoke has mentioned who will be doing it when he gets back for game 5.

Everything I've read and heard from the coaches indicates the kicking is very much open ....and Hagerup was definitely part of the kick-off contingent, suspension notwithstanding.

well, the kicking was only part of the problem... on a couple KOs, WMU had a huge seam to work with. from the angle we had on TV one of the returns was pretty ominous & was just glad it didn't go for a TD.

I actually thought kicking was more of a problem when we punted; our punts had no hangtime, but the coverage itself seemed to be there. I expect that will improve when Hagerup gets back.

now is not the time to be overly concerned; a couple hiccups early in the season is to be expected. Now, if KOs and punt coverage continues to be a problem, and our coach says "Even Vince Lombardi couldn't fix our kicking game" THEN it is time to be overly concerned...

The Rodriguez stuff is beyond old, but this is quality.

if you believe, as I do, that we have a quality coaching staff, the issue is really not whether they will fix problems on defense, offense, or special teams, but how quickly they'll get the job done.

in Bo's first year, we lost to Missouri 41-17, early in the season, but recovered and improved by leaps and bounds every week until you-know-what happened. In Bo's book, he says Mizzou got ugly when they had a punt blocked... so punt blocking is what they worked on the next week, and it didn't happen again.
