Larry Webster breakout season coming?

Can't wait to see him and Reid in action in year 2.
Y2Webster and Y2Reid.

Honestly had no idea the kid was THAT big. That being said im just about over all the preseason hype the lions dish out on guys then never do anything once the real games start. Shall we go down the list of preseason super heroes weve had on this team?

If it turns into success during real games great. If not, just more off-season fluff and hype. I can imagine too many people buy into it anymore. I miss real football.

Put on an extra 8 lbs of muscle this offseason, up to 270 lbs. Pulling for this guy to produce, cuz the Lions need somebody to besides Ziggy and Ngata. His size(6'6, 270 lbs)and athleticism(4.5 speed)certainly fit the bill.

He has Julius Peppers measureables.........can he produce anything???

God I hope so. Getting a DE in the 4th that could provide a consistent pass rush opposite Ansah would be HUGE!!!!

Heck if he plays anything like his measurables and leaks suggest...then lets start him. I honestly think all you can do is improve when were talking about Jason Jones. Weve talked about the dynamic of losing suh....but the dynamic also changes by gaining Ngata....hes a run stuffer and we'll have a better run dline just with his presense. We need a better pass rush opposite Ansah.

If Webster can solidly contribute in just year 2, that would be a huge feather in Mayhew/Austin's cap. He was about as raw as they come entering the draft.

But so was Ziggy. Raw means he has the tools, he just needs to learn what to do with them.

And while he didn't suit up for us last season, he practiced, he learned, he was in the meetings. There's a lot of room to improve there.

I'm hopeful for the kid, but hesitant.

Ziggy at least had some D1 experience. Webster didn't even have that. This would be an even bigger draft win imo. I'm also very hesitant, I didn't expect much until year 3, similar to SLH.

I'm expecting another Willie Young. Rotational guy who shows you the potential, and finally starts to be a quality player... about the time he leaves in Free Agency to a division rival.

So negative lately ink. Mayhew is the BEST at player retention. Such a good GM. From draft, to player development, to retention....I cant think of anyone better. Roster is littered with starters weve drafted and got to a 2nd contract. Its no wonder why were perennial super bowl contenders.

Alright, I'll bite.

I don't consider it negative at all. The Lions weren't ready to make him a full time starter and pay him like one, and with good reason. They knew that while he was productive, he wasn't a player you overpay for.

And they were right.

The Bears were in dire straights at the position, and were willing to overpay for a starter.

Willie took the money and ran. Smart move.

Same exact things happened with Sammie Lee Hill. They were groomed to be starters, but didn't become players you can't live without. Not resigning them is no big deal to me. I'd rather not resign them than overpay for the wrong guys.

Just a situation that works out for everyone. I expect the same from Webster. I think he's got talent, but when he hits free agency, someone will be willing to overpay, and we won't. He will move on, and we'll draft another guy.

Id rather overpay for guys like slh and willie young than guys like burleson and kvb in their final years.
