Mikel Leshoure - RB - Lions

Updating previous items, Lions RB Mikel Leshoure's March 12 arrest for marijuana possession is a felony charge.

The police term is "possession of marijuana/second offense" because Leshoure was arrested twice for the same misdeed. Police did acknowledge Leshoure stopped eating the weed after officers caught him in the act following a traffic stop. The Detroit Free Press points out that Leshoure may face a six-game suspension for multiple violations of NFL policy. After missing his entire rookie year, Leshoure needs to start worrying about his roster spot.

Can we cut him and be given a comp pick? I realize it would be a 2013 draft pick, but I'm good with it as he'll probably never play anyway. What a way to f up one's life in less than a month.

Just thinking a felony charge violates his contract and Lions can pursue other options. They also don't take a cap hit as well as have legal recourse to signing bonuses, right? Trying to remember back to Ricky Williams lawsuit.

You only get a comp pick when a player leaves as a FA. I am not sure what the cap hit would be if we waived him. Clearly the kid has issues that destroy his career.

Well, at least this sheer idiocy fortunately happened before the draft, and all but eliminates any doubts that the Lions brass may have had about possibly trading up and/or drafting a higher pick @ RB, if they were waffling or on the fence, but we obviously will still never know what they intended to do (or were not going to do in any case).

Edit: Just learned yesterday that Mikel was born while his mother was an inmate, and apparently his father spent time in prison as well? How very poignant and terribly awful his latest fuckup is turning out for him, his already uncertain future and esp. his family...yikes!!

Well the way I see it. You had a pretty good offense last year, and he's not a player who contributed to it. So it could be worse.

Still a dumbass though.

What are you ppl talking about? He will serve a 2 to 4 game suspension and then come back fine. His career is not over and he is not getting cut. Slowly this is becoming like the ESPN board

he was a candidate to start the year on P.U.P anyway , my guess is we see him sometime In late November.

Bumb achilis and now we find out he is a knuckle head too....time to cut bait.

That totally depends on his actions, which up until now do not show signs of anything promising. Busted for weed once, no big deal. Twice within a month is a problem.

Exactly. If they don't get a RB in the draft, they'll sign a vet to go with Smith and Best for a few games, but they're not gonna panic.

I'd be more worried about Suh running someone over

When you say "Best for a few games"....do you mean before he gets knocked out for the season?

HA! My bad should have put a disclaimer in there. Anyways I have a feeling we get LaMichael James in the draft. He fits our offense to a T. Pretty much all Oregon ran him out of was those pistol draws where he can cut and go.

Doesn't LMJ have a history of problems as well though? Maybe I'm thinking of Blount, but I thought LMJ had some issues in his past.

Regardless, sux to have to spend another high round pick on RB. While I like Best and Leshoure, it seems they are not individually nor collectively the solution to the Lions problems at RB.

3rd degree battery charge, which was dropped before he went to college. Harassment charge by his GF in college for wiping his ass on her pillowcase, of which she contacted pink eye (okay I made that last part up).

We gonna trade our 4th and flip 5ths to move up in the 3rd for him.
