"I'm shocked, totally shocked," Leyland said Thursday. "Broken-hearted. Can't believe it. This guy was absolutely fantastic, absolutely fantastic for us. One of the best teammates I've ever managed. He did as good a job ... for three years in a row, he had the most saves and the best percentage. I can't believe it."

He can't believe it ..

Yet, he's not suggesting Detroit being him back.

He's like a kid who knew what presets he was getting for Christmas and tries to act surprised.

I saw that too.

Leyland: I'm shocked no one has signed him, But I sure as shit don't want him on my team.

Wait.... wtf?

Maybe Leyland is shocked that one of the more likely bottom-feeders next season in the AL or NL didn't "snap him up", perhaps offering Jose a one year deal heavily laden with incentives at best, such as the Astros, Marlins, or Twins, but not necessarily or purposely as their designated closer. Valverde might have been able to earn the role back, although it would require the ability to gradually increase his pitch speed on his FB.

From being perfect in save situations to the dung heap after the following season. Baseball can be a cruel business, despite all the $$$ and perks involved. I am sure that there were many baseball fans of other teams, especially within the Tigers division who watched gleefully as Papa Grande imploded on the mound during the last postseason, mostly due to his antics and dancing on the mound when their teams batted vs the Tigers' now former closer, can't really blame them, b/c I would feel the same way if Valverde did that while successfully saving games vs the Tigers.
