Why??? Bye Stefan Logan? Hope it was nothing more than a 7th. And how can they afford that salary, even if its pro-rated? And I thought they were looking for a safety???? Questions...too many questions

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports the Lions have acquired WR/PR Mike Thomas from the Jaguars in exchange for undisclosed considerations.
It's an understandable trade from Jacksonville's point of view. Thomas failed to endear himself to Mike Mularkey's coaching staff, wasn't worthy of his $4.95 million in salary and bonuses and had fallen far emerging go-to receiver Cecil Shorts. Although Thomas will provide depth in Detroit at wide receiver and punt returner, he doesn't figure to be a threat to Ryan Broyles' slot receiver role. Broyles has impressed since Nate Burleson went down two weeks ago. With an average of 11 targets, six receptions and 97.5 yards the past two weeks, Shorts should be added in 12-team leagues.

He was a 4th rd pick in 09 and has 13 catches on the year. So what's the value for him a 5th round pick in 2015?

obtaining a guy from he team we're going to play next just before we play them, that's interesting.. 5 ft 8 huh? yeah don't really any short WR's maybe Logan's replacement would be nice..

idk what to think...he is young..had three seasons of 40 catches or more..one season with 66 catches 800 yards..but he never has played in anything with a nfl caliber quarterback..i guess we'll see..

Clearly they arent thrilled with Logan, Osgood or Robiskie.

To be honest, I'm tired of seeing Scheffler in the slot in "4 WR" sets too.

I don't mind this deal. I'd prefer a safety, but that doesn't mean there was anyone available worth a shit. I'm pretty confident that Mayhew has looked.

I do wonder about the pick, but the money isn't terrible. If I read his contract right, he's only making 1.4 million this year, then jumps into the 3 million range for the next 3 years. If he flops, we can cut him before March and drop his entire deal.

Considering a rather pressing need for a true slot receiver, and his relatively solid production on a terrible offensive team, I think he could be very useful.

We only have to pay his base salary. Jags eat the signing bonus so his cap number won't be 3 million next year. And it was a 2014 5th round pick so no big deal. Burleson is done as a Lion with his huge cap number. Calvin, Young,Broyles,Thomas will be our top 4 receivers next season. It would be awesome if they could cut Burleson and bring him back on a cheaper deal but that leg injury is going to take awhile 8 months.

I like the deal its low risk high reward. He is a solid wr who has never had a decent QB.

If Nate goes on IR isnt there something where we get a credit toward the cap so we can fill the roster spot?

No, if there is something in his contract called a "split" only half his salary would count, but that is generally reserved for late round picks. To give you an idea of how stringent the cap is, even if Best were to retire we would have to petition the NFL to get salary relief.

Watching NFL Live right now and they just brought up Jahvid and how they have until nov. 6 to activate him. If thomas is shifty (which i have no clue; never heard of him before yesterday) would it be possible that he might function in a role similar to best, but more of a pass catcher out of the backfield? Who knows. I'm tired.

If were lining up Logan in the backfield I'm sure its just a matter of time before we see Him. Not sure what he could do if anything with this line but right now we don't have anyone that can get the edge in the run game. He had a good 3 cone drill time also so he can change directions. Hand it off, screen it to him, line him up in the slot, I don't care how just get him the ball in space and watch him go.
