Get StartedLast place in NFC North after Bears beat Raiders. One slot closer to #1 overall draft pick!!!
Bit early don't you think?
I think they'll win 7-9 games. You can't win without a running game. The defense has kept them in the game.
Not too early at all, I think they stay right here at the bottom from here on out, top 5 pick for sure
Mayhew, Caldwell, etc should NOT be back if the team bottoms out after making the playoffs. Maybe keep Austin, just don't promote him to HC unless team is like 0-10 and the organization wants to demonstrate they will no longer tolerate the same BS any longer. It would be a really good sign the JR is not like his wishy washy dad, step in and make a difference.
Caldwell is the NFL equivalent of Hoke, can maintain with prior coaches players for short term but long term it all falls apart. It just fell apart faster with the Lions...because it is the Lions. Hopefully they will bring in a guy able to turn things around quickly.
There are only two teams now that haven't yet won a game yet, the lions and the saints
Hmmmm maybe that offense doesn't work anymore Caldwell Joe,,ya bafoons

Edit...Lions now are able to control their own destiny and go get that #1 draft pick.
As they say, embrace the suck.
The fact that this team can potentially get a top 3 pick, with the high expectations coming into the season and the constant weapons drafted for this offense to hum and returning a lot of pieces from a #2 ranked defense... wow. If there's not a bigger sign to clean house, I'm not sure what else is.
Since the history of the draft is littered with the Ryan Leafs and Jamarcus Russells that went high and busted, and also littered with the JJ Watts and Derrell Revis players that went later and became superstars... I don't ever care where we draft as long as we draft the right guy.
I have very little faith at this point that Mayhew can do that. I have very little faith that Mayhew can hire the right coach. But I also have very little faith in the Ford family to find anyone that can if they fire Mayhew.
We all know what's coming. Mayhew gets fired, and we hire another idiot GM. He hires another sub-standard coach. That guy hires the wrong coordinators and coaches.
We go into the draft and pick the wrong players. Once a generation we hit with a Barry or a Calvin, but in between is a laundry list of busts like Andre Ware, Joey Harrington, Charles Rodgers, Brandon Pettigrew, and Stockar McDougle.
The playcalling under the new coaches will be shit, and we will argue forever about which players really suck and which don't... and none of us will really know because the shit rolls down from the top.
8 years later, we do it all again.
Cocaine Wayne, Bobby Ross, "Pick the Wind" Marty, Mooch, "In Rod We Trust"... it's a never ending parade of the same old crap. We can't put together a winning team if the men at the top aren't winners and we spend all day blaming the players for the trash playbook they are handed.
Maybe there really is a Curse of Bobby Layne, and maybe hiring a witch doctor is the only cure, but I for one have no real optimism that a new GM, a new coach, new players, what have you is ever going to change things for this team.
Shit, might as well keep Mayhew for all the difference it will make. If we're never going to see a real GM hired, who cares what the guys name is sitting in the chair making the wrong decisions?
