Lions lowball George Johnson Bucs sign him to 3 year offer sheet

Just checked roto, we got a fifth. Better than was initially reported. Still I don't see us drafting a 6 sack rotational rusher as a rookie fifth rounder. Can someone post our actual DL depth chart?

I don't see why not, considering Johnson was undrafted himself. A 5th rounder is a much higher pick than was ever used on the guy we just dealt.

The odds are streep that we could replace him with that pick, and we all know it, but by the same token, that 5th round pick won't cost us $3MM against the cap for the next three years either, and I think it's about time to see what we have in Devin Taylor on the other side.

More than anything, that 5th round picks gives us the flexibility to take a RB or a WR later in the draft, rather than having to grab one early due to the lack of mid-round picks. Or even an OG, since that's right around the territory good guards usually get drafted.

The 5th rounder is important to me, more so than a guy who likely had his breakout season playing part time next to a stud that is no longer here.

What? Ngata is just as much of a stud. Haven't you heard?

Dont kid yourself....were lucky to get a doug hogue out of a 5th rd pick. You know ....that guy that sits on the bench for a year tgen gets replaced in next years draft after we blow a bunch of picks on a trade up for a guy that would have been there at your pick. Ya....that guy.

Lotta guys on this board overrating Ngata. Lot of guys underrating him too.

He is one of the better DTs in the league, even at 31, and he's a great fit for Austin's system. He's a run stopper, and a big hole plugger, and that's exactly where Austin shines in his scheming, taking away the run.

He's going to be better for the Lions than a lot of people think, but as you were clearly pointing out (sarcastically) he's sure as shit no Suh.

I still think it's funny that last off-season, there was a discussion on this board as to whether or not Suh was even a top 5 DT. Now he's the biggest beast that ever lived, we are shit without him... but Ngata seems to be a top 5 beat or a bottom five old man in a walker depending on who you talk to.

One of these days, we're all gonna have to figure out how good our players are and let them know, so they know how to play.

I see ngata as a top 5 guy. Theres no way in hell he can be as durable as suh was while playing as many snaps as suh did. That means your depth becomes more important....and we have none.

I don't think anyone underrates him. Or I haven't seen any "Ngata isn't any good, is a waste, and/or a bad sign." It's mostly "he's not as good as Suh."

At 31 I will withhold my thoughts on him.. He has to stay healthy.. Do we have a back-up plan in case something happens.. Gotta see him play... he has a lot of wear on him..

Yeah, there's no way he plays as many snaps as Suh did for us. No one does.

I read Ngata's best season he played like 63% of the defensive snaps. Suh is like 90% or some insane number.

We didn't just lose that talent, we lost that talent on a majority of plays.

Are people really bitching about losing this bum in fa AND picking up a draft pick???

Some of you damn fools will whine about any and everything, even if it makes you look like a lil bitch!

We still have cap space, we still have the draft. You're bitching about depth before training camp...C'mon man! LOL

I'm not sure that's what the thread is about..

Some of you damn fools have trouble inferring what is being said.

Carruan Reid year 2 and Jason Jones can slide inside and play DT (we have DEs that can fill in for Jones with Taylor, Webster and Tapp). Our DT depth is fine right now. And we still have a draft.

Shut your holes.

What does Caraun Reid year 2 supposed to mean? Is he like a Sayan and this isn't even his final form?

At least we can rely on the draft. If there is anything Lions fans can take solace in its the draft.

Carraun Reid year 2 is solid depth. Plus Jones can slide inside.

Carraun Reid year 2 < Mosely

which was our point. Our starters are worse at the DT position. And our depth is worse at the DT position. Not exactly sure what the fuck you are trying to argue....its clear as day.

Walker>Mosely (the starter last 9 games)
Jones>Mosley
Reid year 2 could be >>>Mosley
Rookie DT in top 3 rounds>Mosley

Lions chose not to re-sign Mosley. Still could get him back too very cheap.

We have good DT depth still with Reid and Jones. Plus more to come maybe. But I would focus on CB (need outside guy depth), OT (due to Waddle injury) and RB depth and get Sims or Blalock. Depends on the board though.

Also Ansah and Jones in year 2 better than 2014 Ansah/Jones. Same with Taylor, Tapp and Webster.
Levy/Whithead/Van Noy another year in the system. Tulloch back too is a huge upgrade.
Bentley/Wilson/Lawson back is a huge upgrade at nickel.
Slay/Mathis/Quin/Dig/IAQ/Carey all will be better in year 2 of Austin system.

Ngata and Suh is a wash.

This defense is better than last year.

Stafford Year 7 or Rodgers Year 11?

Stafford is a Super Bowl caliber talent in year 7 and should have 3 good weapons in Calvin, Tate and Ebron. Hopefully all for 16 games. Big year for Stafford. Plus good suppport from Bell, Riddick and Fuller/TJ Jones.
