Lions sign WR Jared Abbrederis

Uhm? I assume he will be gone sometime in the summer if not earlier. Way to go Quinn.

Probably, I don't see much of a point in this signing. They think its double elimination or something, lol?

Rule1: No press coverage
Rule2: Don't play the sidelines
Rule3:???
Rule4: Profit.

Compete for 5th WR with TJ Jones (restricted FA). Has some talent just oft injured. Solid routes and speed, some experience and can play special teams. You only hate him because he is a Lion now.

He will be 27 and has only played 14 games.

Due to injury. We'll see if he stays healthy. He has made the Packers rosters several years. He has some talent. You bring in competition. It's a good signing for the 5th WR battle.

He is probably garbage but it you are right about just adding bodies for competition. I don't want shitty cast offs to compete for the #5 WR...I want players that have the ability to compete for 2-4.

He has special teams value. He could be a good number 5. Lions aren't done adding at WR I'm sure. Boldin and Roberts are free agents and TJ Jones is restricted. I'd add Cordarelle Patterson to replace Roberts. Monster kick returner.

He's a POS. I know someone will come on and say's it's just a body for spring practices and what not. But I don't understand moves like this.

Moves like this happen with every NFL team. They kick the tires on extreme depth. Especially now. Tons of futures deals in Jan/Feb. There is nothing to do understand. It's routine business in Jan/Feb.

prolly just bringing him in to pick his brain and try to get some insight into how the packers are always able to get the best out of their players when it matters.

I'm just going to throw you 1958 through 2016 at ya. It might be routine but "future" guys who are 27 make no sense. Zero. Zilch. Nil. Naught. Nothing. Nomundo.

Every team signs futures contracts including veterans. 1958 through 2016 has nothing to do with it. Zero zilch nada

ALLEN PARK -- The Detroit Lions what is sure to be a busy offseason by signing nine players to futures deals.

Receiver Jared Abbrederis, a fifth-round pick of the Packers in 2014, is the only newcomer of the group.
The other eight players were on Detroit's practice squad, including:
TE Kennard Backman, RB Mike James, TE Khari Lee , LB Steve Longa ,
OL Matt Rotheram , OL Brandon Thomas, WR Andrew Turzilli and DB Charles Washington.

Futures contracts are just like regular contracts, except they count against the next season's salary cap and roster limit.
Teams can begin signing players to such deals once their season is over.

Any player not on a team at the end of a regular season is eligible to be signed to a futures contract, while everybody else is off limits until the start of free agency in March.
