Lions Trade Up Not Down

With Joekel having every team represented at his pro day, am I the only one thinking Mayhew will try to trade up to #1 to get him?

Mayhew has always shown a preference to trading up instead of down.

If he did, what would it cost to move from #5 to #1?

To clarify, this is NOT what I am wanting them to do, just something that I can easily see Mayhew doing based on his past moves from early R2 into late R1 to get "his guy" (and we all know how well that worked out).

This will NOT happen. Too many holes on the team to be giving up draft picks

With Fisher an option as well I can't imagine we'd trade up.

You're argument holds no water based on past deals that Mayhew has done. Despite the same number of holes, or even more, he traded up from early R2 into late R1. Jumping up from #5 to #1 isn't going to be drastically different from that. He didn't mind losing picks and not filling holes then, why would he care now?

They would have to really be head over heals for Joeckel. Which who knows maybe they are. I can't see any other player worth trading up for in the top 5. Although I could see us trading back into the late first for sure. That to me is a very interesting question, who could you see falling, or even just be still there at the end of the first that we would target in a trade up?

I'll throw mine out there Tavon Austin.

+1 on what Mitch said, no way they trade up with another top tackle available without us moving, or giving up anything extra.

With all the holes on this team, trading back as many times as possible to gather as many extra picks as possible is probably the best thing for the team.

That being said, as the OP originally said, Mayhew has a track record of moving up not down.

2nd round to first. But never a top 10 pick.

Your argument is baseless.....when has he ever traded up to the top of the first round??

HUGE difference in moving from early 2nd to late 1st....especially now with the rookie cap. NOT gonna happen.

Even you're smarter than than, aren't you?

Well I'm not sure why you consider my point baseless when Mayhew has never once moved down but has moved up several times.

Granted that was early R2 into late R1, as I previously mentioned.

I personally am smart enough to recognize it would be more beneficial to move down and get more picks to fill more holes. However, I'm not so confident that Mayhew thinks it is better.

Mitch makes a great point about Fisher still being available, but if Joekel goes #1 there are mocks that have Fisher being gone before Lions pick. If they really want to get either of those guys, is it not more likely they would move up to #2 or #3 to get one of them if the other has already been picked?

I'm not advocating it, I'm just saying I can see Mayhew doing it.

u guys are forgetting one thing. mayhew loves wasting picks. u want a tackle sit at 5 and hope fisher is there. that being said....mayhew trading up to 1 is dumb...so its probably something hed do.

Mayhew has moved down a few times. 3rd round 2009 picked up a 4th, 4th round in 2012 picked up a 6th.

The move up to the 1st, he only lost a 7th and swapped 4ths. The move up for LeShoure he turned a 3rd into a late 2nd and lost a 4th and swapped 5ths.

Mayhew doesn't just get rid of picks. Alot of late rounders he traded for good/solid players. CW, Rob Sims, Chris Houston, Shaun Hill, Lawrence Jackson. All good moves and better than what a 5th, 6th or 7th could get you.

another way of looking at it is:

he wasted a 1st on best, lost a 7th and swapped 4ths.

wasted a 4th on Thomas

wasted a 4th on whitehead

wasted a 2nd on leshoure, lost a 4th, lost value in the 5th.

Dude, did Whitehead forcefully take your anal virginity?? Why the hate for a rookie that played behind 3 solid LB's??

Your take on him is a personal opinion and nothing more.....until he has had time to prove one way or another.

he didn't even play special teams lmao. guy sucks. people were all gung ho about Hogue too...wheres he at? lol. mayhew doesn't know wtf hes doing in the draft.

Tried for both Peterson and Claibourne if I'm not mistaken. Other than that its kind of hard to trade up when you are picking top two.

You're proving my point, Einstein.......clearly the price was too high to move up on those two guys.

Good for him.

I'm sure you and Hughes would have loved it had he traded picks for either of those guys.

id rather him trade up for claiborne or Peterson as opposed to the bunch of crap hes traded up for. best, leshoure, whitehead....a whole bunch of fucking awesome.

Nothing wrong with trading up for best or leshoure......Best was the perfect fit for the offense......just couldn't stay healthy (not really Mayhews fault) and LeShoure just finished his first year behind a terrible line, inconsistant QB and an offense with exactly ONE weapon.

Give it time, private patience.
