Lions Trade Up Not Down

Nothing wrong with trading up for best or leshoure......Best was the perfect fit for the offense......just couldn't stay healthy (not really Mayhews fault) and LeShoure just finished his first year behind a terrible line, inconsistant QB and an offense with exactly ONE weapon.

Give it time, private patience.

Whose fault is that?

id rather him trade up for claiborne or Peterson as opposed to the bunch of crap hes traded up for. best, leshoure, whitehead....a whole bunch of fucking awesome.

What's your standard for draft analysis? Serious question. How many years before you label a draft a bust?

Whose fault is that?

The Line is Mayhews fault.....100%.

Staff being inconsistant is mostly his own bad decision making and his his love of throwing off his back foot.

The lack of weapons situation is just plain bad luck....tough to blame anybody for Nate breaking his leg, Best not being able to get back on the field or Titus going AWOL.

it hasn't taken very many YEARS to consider some of our recent drafts busts. Im results based unlike some people on here that judge drafts based on "welp...they might be good someday" so admitingly im a little more harsh on our drafts than most. My feeling is...if your good enough for us to draft you in a high round...then you should produce at a high lvl. Anything less than that then youre a bust. So lets take a look at mayhew drafts:

2012-
reiff - played fullback sometimes. might move to guard. a 1st rd guard playing out of position.
broyles - sat more games than played. didn't produce crap for a 2nd rd pick. can walk in a pool.
Bentley - 160 lb cb who injured his shoulder. weird....
Lewis - who?
Whitehead - #1 cheerleader for the special teams.
Greenwood - talk of the draft. hidden gem from albion. will be an all pro one day if he ever makes it off IR.

2011-
Fairley- stock fell when character concerns came up and worry about his small legs. odd....hes been arrested a couple times and has had numerous leg and foot injuries. Funny how that works out when teams do their homework and we don't.

Young- was a nutjob in college. still a nutjob in the NFL. people were waving red flags everywhere....mayhew thought they were just matadors. brought in to get open deep opposite calvin.....never did except that one time the db tripped.

Leshoure - if he tries really hard this year he might be able to crack 3.5 ypc.

We traded all of our picks in the 3rd 4th, one in the 5th, 2 in the 6th and 2 in the 7th! LMAO

Hogue - everyone loved him so much they dropped him less than a year later.

2010 -
Suh - was great his first year. hes weird and freaks out from time to time. liscense should be suspended by now and tends to be unable to control his temper. Some of you may have seen him try to stomp another player. Play has fallen off drastically since his rookie year. Has a 18 mil cap in 2013....the most ridiculous thing I ever heard. Hes worth about 9.

Best - picked a 160 lb back with a mush brain. he still has a mush brain. lost value in the 4th so we can grab fox....who blows and has been injured since 2010.

Spievey - BWAHAHAHAHAAAAAAA

traded two 5th 6th and 7th.

Willie Young - part time guy that gets more personal fouls than pressure. 2013 all pro according to LKP.

2009-
Stafford Pettigrew and levy are only ones from this draft class still signed to a contract. levy blows. Stafford is getting top 5 money and is a top 20 qb. Pettigrew is all world in run blocking eventhough our run game sucks. has no hands. cant run routes. cant exploit weak lb coverage. isn't dynamic in the pass game. Doesn't get any YAC....ever.

sooooo to answer your question....it doesn't take long to label a draft a bust.

Ok, so you just labled BUST on all players you mentioned during your rant? Or just the said draft itself??

every single player listed either hasn't produced at all, hasn't produced up to their pick status, or is grossly being overpaid and aren't producing comparable to the amount of money they are making.

Buddy, welcome to the NFL..lmfao. Give me a break, son!!

Some of your list is legit, but to throw guys like Suh, Fairley, Reiff, Broyles, Leshoure under the bus is fn stupid to say the least. Even guys like Greenwood, Lewis or Whitehead. All rookies for fuck sakes. Give it time!!!

I see what it is with you. I can't believe i didn't see it before and it's real simple. You're too impatient. And as a Lions fan, you need patience..lol. I can't even imagine wtf you are going through with this team, bro...wow.

Not producing?? Wtf do you watch that we're not watching?? Leshoure didn't turn into John Riggins immediately? Broyles better be Cris Carter when he walks on that field Day 1 or else. Suh isn't Reggie White right away? (even though Suh is a fn beast who gets doube/triple teamed almost every down...AND improved his sack numbers from last year)

I seriously suggest rooting for another team, buddy. You're not cut out to go for the Lions. And don't give me that shit that you don't have the time. Because you do have the time if you're a Lions fan. That's ALL you got!!! ;)

Your list is bogus..

Weaknesses
Best lacks the prototypical size of an every down NFL running back. Does not have the strength to consistently break tackles or push the pile. Durability is a real concern after missing time due to various ailments throughout career. Is not a power runner. Will need to improve his blocking ability in the passing game

sounds like a 1st round pick to me!!!!

His strengths were worth the gamble. He was the perfect back for stafford and this offense.

When Best was on the field even as a rookie this offense was incredibly hard to stop and put up huge numbers. He made it possible for Pettigrew and Calvin to not be blanketed because he forced safeties up and still gained a bunch of yards. If he stayed healthy this team is a playoff contender this past season. Having a guy like him on this offense makes all the difference in the world. Thats why they drafted him and thats why getting Bush is on mayhews priorities list. Although this defense could possibly be only slightly better then "that lions team".

When a player gets a concussion right before he's drafted, yet we draft him and has the same problems as a pro - that's on Mayhew. Titus apparently was mental in college and went mental in year 2 - that's on Mayhew. You take a chance at times and Mayhew did but both times it back fired. This thing about "well he was a good pick at the time" is BS.

Eventually 2nd round picks need to perform. Delmas is a good example. LeShoure is as well. You can't continue to use the unlucky label.

Delmas has alot of talent but his knees are unlucky (especially the cheap shot by the Seahawks this year). LeShoure has talent but has limitatiions plus the achilles, not a speed back, hence end of Round 2. Same with Broyles, it was the other knee like Delmas which are both extremley unlucky.

Titus you hope a guy grows up. Mid 2nd round pick is when you take character risks. It was one draft for Mayhew and he learned his lesson and adjusted in 2012 with good character guys in Reiff and Broyles.

Ernie Sims had 4 concussion in college and none as a Lion. Best had 2 bad ones and played 21 games concussion free. Best has a ton of talent and was great for this offense. It didn't pay off long term but it did short term. Back to the drawing board with Bush or whoever and whoever at speed WR.

It's the truth not an excuse. They are 4 talented players but had some bad injury luck. It's a rough sport. Mayhew will keep finding talent, Broyle and LeShoure will produce this year and beyond, they'll try to get Delmas back or an equivalent in a deep safety market and they'll replace Best this offseason.

When Mayhew gets fired, and face it at some time he will -- going to the mat on "well they were good but we we're unlucky" won't cut it. And Broyles and Leshoure have a huge history of injuries and yet they will produce this year and beyond? :lmao:

And getting replacements for Best and Delmas is not comforting when if they were worth a damn and stayed injury free we wouldn't have to waste our little free agent cap on new players. Overpaid for sure.

Bottom line: Mayhew hasn't had a productive draft class. Doesn't take much to make a pick between 1-5, what good teams do is draft well beyond the first round.

And how does 22 receptions make R. Broyles productive this year and beyond? And don't forget the two ACL's. And LeShoure, 1 year of IR and the other where he was average - how do you mark him as productive this year and beyond?

I always thought you were over positive, which is okay - but now I'm wondering ..
