I thought Notre Dame recruited intelligent athletes? In fact, numerous Notre Dame commentators have stated over the years that Notre Dame has higher academic standards, in some cases even claiming this was the basis for their long stretch of mediocrity from the mid-90's to the present (see, e.g. Paul Hornung).

Does Te'o have some sort of rule against using the same name to describe the same person more than 3 or 4 times? I think this story involves about 5 people and about 43 names and nicknames.

Wednesday, the New York Daily News published a story saying it obtained a receipt of flowers Te'o sent Sept.12, the day he believed Kekua had died, from 1-800-FLOWERS.com. It listed "Kainoa Kekua" as the recipient of "36 stems of premium white roses" sent by Te'o with a South Bend, Ind., address.

I saw a story that claimed ND was good back when they didn't have high standards for football players. They raised the standards and got terrible at the same time, now they are relaxing them a bit and getting better at football. The SAT scores of their football team is still on the upper end of FBS teams, as are Michigan's, but they're not where they were in the 90's.

they also were struck with an ethics scandal and potential sanctions in the mid-late 90's. people always seem to forget that. link! ...but that was in the days before I was a frequent internet commenter, and so was not able to remind people.

This part, at least, I suspected from the start.

The woman whose picture was used to create Manti Te'o's fake girlfriend has been identified, but the voice of the woman who had hours of late-night phone calls with the Notre Dame star linebacker has remained silent. Turns out that's because it reportedly was a man.

Yeah...Te'o's story is fishy and still sounds like a cover up, but the phone records kind of point to Te'o being duped and Tuiasosopo having real issues. Not sure what to make of that. 500 hours of phone calls for someone with a football player's schedule is crazy.

Not sure if anyone heard them yet, but you can hear the voice mails from Tuiasosopo. Unless he's got an app or something, it sounds EXACTLY like a girl. So, potentially, he was staying on the line for 8 hours with a dude.
