Always give the cutman the option to cut it, or let it go through...

The ball would have gotten to third much faster if the cutman had decided to let it go, or to cut it and relay to third, than it did with Hicks throwing the ball high enough to hit a 747...

You can't give the cutoff man the option on that type of play.

Either you throw it to him and he cuts it off, or you throw it past him directly to third.

Any ball that is thrown where the cutoff man has the option to cut it, he'll have to, because it won't be reaching 3rd without bouncing multiple times.

There's only one throw to make in that situation, because there is only one base runner on the paths. If the guy can make the throw, then he should make the throw.

Yep. plenty of guys made careers out of throwing guys out at home or 3rd without the aid of a cutoff man. Jeff Francouer has done it to us so many times that I just assume a LD hit to him with a man on second will be an automatic double play.

at least Frenchy isnt on the royals anymore, i think the giants picked him up.

The word on Hick's arm is he has a cannon.

You have to have a strong arm obviously but also Accurate to throw from deep right or center,
few do, those that did in the past threw strikes to the base with the runner staying at 2nd or 3rd anyways.
signed Kaline / Clemente / Furilla / barfield / Ichiro.

Thankfully, Willie Horton missed the cutoff man on this throw.
